Westfield wraps up 10-day session on high note
By JOE SERSEY
HHJ Sports Writer
PERRY - Westfield ended
its spring football practice
Friday with a scrimmage at
Mount de Sales and against
the Cavaliers as well as
Bulloch Academy.
“I left there pleased with
the way we played,” said
Hornets head coach Ronnie
Jones. “In the last week of
practice we had (two ban
quets) and it was hard to
get a full practice.”
Jones said from here, he
would go back and look at
the film and evaluate what
he and his staff feel needs
to be done.
“We have a good nucle
us, especially if we stay
healthy,” Jones said.
Two of his concerns - as
is always the case for any
coach - is depth and the
effect injuries may have on
the team.

Lancers finish spring
with three scrimmages
ByJOESERSEY
HHJ Sports Writer
MACON - The Central Fellowship Lancers
completed their first spring practice under new
head coach Mike Card Friday by scrimmaging
Briarwood, Edmund Burke and Nathaniel
Greene.
“Everything went real well,” Card said. “We
did well against two of the three teams but
got a little tired on the third team. We went
straight through without a break.”
Card was hoping a couple of his linemen
would step up and was pleased with his entire
line’s performance, singling out the work of
guard Bobby Harvey.
“He’s a sophomore and he did extremely
well,” Card said. “Bradford Jones played well
on offense at tackle.”
With a roster just over 20 personnel, most of
the Lancers will have to play both ways'.
Harvey will cross the line of scrimmage and
play tackle on defense while Jones will play a
defensive tackle or end when not blocking.
The Lancers had success running the ball
out of the single-wing offense Card installed.
“Dameeyon Miles and Logan Dunaway ran
the ball real well,” he said.
Offensively, Card was not able to settle on a
quarterback during spring practice. He moved
Dunaway to running back and is looking at
Brandon Long and Andre Loyd at the quar
terback position.
“Andre did a good job handling the offense,”
Card said. “Brandon was sick all week. He
thought he’d be well enough to play, but he
was too sick to even travel to the game.”
