of the season and started hit

in the playoffs.”
Through four innings
it appeared as if the game
would go to the wire.
Feagin Mill jumped out to
a 2-0 lead after one. Then
Bonaire struck for five in
the top of the second, only to
be counter-attacked by the
Wolves in the bottom half
of the inning. They scored
three and tied things up.
Bonaire, which had seven
hits on the night to Feagin
Mill’s 13, scored another run
in the third. That put them
up 6-5, but the lead was brief.
The Wolves scored two more
in the bottom of the inning to
go back on top.
Once again the Jaguars
were up to task, however.
They scored their last two
runs of the night to take a
brief 8-7 lead.
Feagin Mill erased that
with two in the bottom of the
inning and then took control
with five runs in the fifth.
One more in the sixth fin
ished off their scoring.
ERPELDING
From page 1B
“I took kids to as many
meets as allowed and exposed
them to as many courses as I
could.”
His philosophy was, “com
petition improves perfor
mance.”
“It’s a sport (in which) you
participate the whole time,”
Erpelding said. “Everybody
on the team is allowed to par
ticipate; they reach their own
level of personal goals.”
That’s part of Erpelding’s
coaching success. He doesn’t
have to cut anybody who
wants to run, and every com
petitor has a chance to earn
a letter.
“They get out there and
run four or five miles in 95
degree heat,” he said. “That’s
something to me.”
Erpelding teaches physi
cal education at Quail Run
Elementary School and has
been there the past 11 years.
His first year was at Thomas
Elementary.
“I had a coach (Joe
Jachomwicz) who was really
good,” Erpelding said. “He
enjoyed his job, and I thought
it was something I would
enjoy, too.”
But Erpelding hasn’t for
gotten his high school track
roots. He ran the 800, 3000,
and 5000 at Brunswick, but
ironically, he says, he is a col
lege official in the throwing
events.
Again, it was about friend
ship.
“John West approached me
about officiating,” Erpelding
said. “I took the test (for USA
Track and Field Association)
and have been working in
throws.”

if one comes his way.

Another child (pretend it’s
one of your others) hit the
ball really well in T-ball.
Oh, that’B good.
No, that’s bad. He started
running up the third-base
line.
Oh, that’s bad.
No, that’s good. The coach
got him turned around and
headed east.
Oh, that’s good.
No, that’s bad. He went
straight past first and into
his dugout.
Oh, that’s bad.
No, that’s good. It was very
hot that day...
A girl’s softball parent sit
ting in the stands (different
game) was busy talking to
another mother on her left
when a child stepped into
the batter’s box.
She then stopped the con

her little hitter: “Come on
