This is the second time
that she has run away from
home this month, police
said. She was last seen at

Perry Police Capt. Bill
Phelps said she might have
but stipulated that the land
only be rezoned if Dominy
agreed to leave a 25-foot
buffer along the back and
left sides of the property,
which adjoin nearby homes.
During the city council’s
May 3 meeting, homeowners
argued that rezoning the
property could create traffic
problems in the area, and
presented a signed petition
to the council arguing
against the change.
If approved by the council
June 7, the property would
change from an R-l (single
family residential) district,
into a C-2 (general commer
cial) district, allowing a wide
variety of businesses to be
built on the property, from
sporting goods stores to
banks and auto body shops.
The city council could also
deny Dominy’s request com
pletely during its meeting in
June, forcing the developer
to wait six months before
resubmitting the request. It
could also send the request
new hangars, which would
provide space for 26 small
aircraft.
Airport Authority Chair
Art McDonald told the com
mission that the funds for
the new taxiway and run
way lighting would mostly
come from a grant from the
Federal Aviation
Administration, while the
site preparation for the new
hangars would be funded by
a grant from the Georgia
Department of
Transportation. The coun
ty’s contribution would be
in the form of matching
funds for the two grants.
Such funding could come in
the form of money or in
kind contributions.
McDonald said the airport
authority would borrow the
money for the new hangars

“I think the citizens of
Perry need to know we
aren’t going to rezone at the
drop of a hat,” said
Councilman Joe Kusar dur
ing the council’s work ses

Free said that Dominy is
already considering sending
a request to the planning
commission to rezone the
property to an R-3 (multi
family residential) district,
which will keep the property
zoned for residential uses
but will allow for multi-fam
ily dwellings like apartment
complexes.
The council will discuss
the issue again at its regular
meeting June 7 at 6 p.m.
Also during Tuesday’s
meeting, the council denied
another developer’s plans to
rezone an 80-acre tract of
land on Gurr Road from an
R-2 (two-family residential)

hangers paying for the

“Have you heard from
Perry on their willingness to
cough up their share of the

“We have not had a work
session with them yet, and
my impression is that they
will have a harder time com
ing up with the money than
you will,” said McDonald.

Truck hits car, misses light pole
WARNER ROBINS - An
Air Control Wing lieutenant
stopped at the red light
before making her right
turn Wednesday morning.
“By the time I knew what
was happening, he hit me,”
said the driver of the
Volkswagen Jetta.
The semi behind her
“locked ’em up,” according
to Houston County Sheriffs
Cpl. Tim Chapman.
The truck, from C. Veal
Trucking of Jeffersonville,
was carrying 80,000 pounds
of gravel. It went right and
hit the lieutenant’s car as it
turned into the Green Street
base entrance, according to
eyewitnesses. The truck
crossed over the raised
median and just missed the
light pole, taking out a por

Developers Danny Rosales
and Trent Vasile had
planned to build single-fam

but needed the council’s
approval to build the homes
closer together. According to
Rosales, he and Vasile hoped
to make an affordable alter
native for families moving in
to the area to work on
Robins Air Force Base.
The council voted against
the measure based on the
recommendations made by
the city’s community devel

argued that the city already
has a sufficient number of
R-3 housing developments.
Council members James

The discussion quickly

the result being that

Mclntire’s allegation of
racial discrimination in the
