Freedom from
guilt
Before we come to
Christ, we are legally
guilty— guilty as sin
before God. (James 2:10)
We are sinners, enemies,
and rebels against God,
(Romans 5:10; Colossians
1:21). Because we are
guilty, unlovely, inade
quate, insecure, and
unworthy.
But the good news of the
Christian life is that when
we become Christians,
Christ takes our legal guilt
away. He paid the penalty
of all our legal guilt.
Not only is our guilt
taken away, but we receive
Christ’s righteousness - a
righteousness that comes
from God, not from our
selves. We become holy.
This is why we are called
saints, “holy ones”
Scriptures to read.
Corinthians 11, 5:21,
Romans 10:3-4 Ephesians
5:3; Colossians 1:2; 3:12.
Ephesians 1:1,
Philippiansl:l.
But even after we
become Christians, feel
ings of guilt can still linger.
Even though we are totally
accepted by God. (Romans
15:7; Hebrews 13:5), we do
not experience acceptance.
We often continue to expe
rience feelings of unwor
thiness, shame, and incom
petence, i.e guilt.
This is not God’s desire
for us. Hebrews 10:21-22
says: and since we have a
great priest over the house
of God, let us draw near to
God with a sincere heart in
full assurance of faith, hav
ing our hearts sprinkled to
cleanse us from a guilty
conscience and having our
bodies washed with pure
water.
God wants to replace our
guilt complex, with His
guilt-free identity. You can
try the various methods of
positive thinking, come to
an understanding of psy
chological guilt, but you
will never arrive at a satis
factory solution to the
guilt problem until you
become certain you are
complete and acceptable in
the sight of God.
If you are a Christian,
then believe it or not,
understand it or not,
accept it or not, you are
absolutely virtuous in the
sight of God...as a person.
At the moment of your
Christian conversion, God
declared you virtuous. As
a person, God sees you as
perfect.
Christ gave himself for
our sins, for by one offer
ing he made forever per
fect in the sight of God all
those whom he is making
holy. (Hebrews 10:14)
When we become a
Christian we are justified.
Justified means, God sees
you and I “ just - as if I’d”
never sinned as a person.
A Holy God could not
have a relationship with
you, not for one moment, if
you were not perfectly vir
tuous.
Because of what Christ
did for us; God decided to
make us holy in His eyes,
without a single fault, we
stand before him covered
with his love. Ephesians
1:4).
Therefore a Christian
should never experience
self condemnation: There
is therefore now no con
demnation to them which
are in Christ Jesus.
(Rom’s.B:l)
The remedy for self con
demnation is to see your
self as God sees you !
Part two comes later.
Mom teaches children to respect their father
QUESTION: My wife
works hard to teach my
sons to respect me as
their father, and that
makes my job with them
easier. Even when she is
upset with me, she never
lets the kids know about
it. Don’t you think that
is generous of her?
DR. DOBSON: She’s not
only generous she’s a
wise woman, too. Mothers
can help bond the genera
tions together or they can
drive a wedge between
them. This concept was
expressed beautifully in a
book entitled “Fathers and
Sons” by Lewis Yablonsky
(Simon & Schuster). The
author observed that moth
ers are the primary inter
preters of fathers’ personal
ity, character and integrity
to their sons. In other
words, the way boys see
their fathers is largely a
product of the things their
mothers have said and the
way they feel about their
husbands. In Yablonsky’s
case,‘his mother destroyed
the respect he might have
had for his father. This is
what he wrote.

An ordinary conversation
with a friend left me
dwelling upon an opinion I
expressed before thinking it
through. This is typical for
me.
This particular conversa

topic of feeling nervous
when performing before an
audience. The suggestion
was that an unpaid per
formance would naturally
be more relaxed than a
salaried position since pay
ment would involve no big
expectations.
The reasoning sounded
logical at the time.
However, the thought was a

“His not fighting back
against her constant criti

to me that marriage was a
happy state of being, or that

My overall research clear

enormous significance in
the father-son relationship.
Though Yablonsky did not
say so, it is also true that a
