Houston County Retired
Educators Association rec
ognized several Houston
County students in the third
annual Grandparenting
Essay Contest.
The essay contest was co
sponsored by the Georgia
Retired Educators
Association and the AARP
The theme this year was
“Stories from my
Grandparents ’ Childhood. ”
The essay contest was used
across the state to assist
students with writing skills
and in some cases, help pre
pare students for their win
ter writing tests.
Students who placed
received monetary prizes,
while all that participated
received certificates.
The contest was open to
fifth-graders .at three
schools chosen by the
HCREA, which were Kings
Chapel, Lindsey and
Bonaire elementary schools.
Next year, HCREA hopes
to open the contest to fifth
graders at three other ele
mentary schools.
