today at the high school. Having already run through the exercise - at least “to,” they
still had to go back - are, from left, Will Barron, Austin Grantham and Robbie Leever.
According to Panthers head coach Andy Scott, 92 children showed up for the camp
- some of them an unexpected, but pleasant surprise - with more expected the day
following. For more pictures and a wrapup, see Thursday’s HHJ.

Rain gets the better of H.A.R.D.,
but Crossroads takes its place
ByJOESERSEY

It’s been a rough week
for high school summer
baseball but there may be
hope yet.
Panthers head coach
Shawn Masters said he
lost five or six games to
rain outs in the Houston
County hosted H.A.R.D.
ball tournament that
ended Monday.
Houston County head
coach Andy Gentry said
teams lost 15 games to
rain, the Bears saw eight
of theirs cancelled or
given to other teams, and
Monday was no excep
tion.
He had to cancel three
games at his field and
gave up his team’s sched

uled games to other teams
so that they would get to
play.
Whereas the fields
may be saturated, so is
the schedule - the com
bination of which may
yet yield the productivity
coaches are hoping for.
Set to begin today is the
Crossroads Invitational
baseball tournament,
this one hosted by Perry,
beginning today.
Gentry said he hoped
to play more and Masters
said added the tourna
ments were important
fundraisers.
“It’s where we get most
of our money,” he said,
“through the gate and
concessions.”

Undefeated tracksters
top 'connty's best' list
By DON MONCRIEF
HHJ Sports Editor
If you wanted to
make the girls All-
Houston County
track and field team, what
better way to solidify your
name on the list than to
beat all the competition in
the county? That’s what
more than a handful of
the following track and
field stars did.
Or, you could simply be
best in the region - as
plenty were - or No. 1
in state, like Westfield’s
Lana Mackey.
Either way, it makes for
an enormously talented
field of honorees.
