drivers thought they had/
have it pretty bad in terms
of a workload. After all,
isn’t that one of the rea
sons - the other was to cut
costs -r they’ve continued to
try and ease up their sched
ule each year (adding more
races being the exception,
not the rule).
Isn’t that one of the rea
sons they now qualify and
then park the car? Yes - plus
see cut costs above.
The truth is, compared
to some of the drivers who
raced in the '6os and 70s,
however, they’ve got it easy.
“We used to race Friday,
Saturday and Sunday,” said
Don Tomberlin of the local
National Vintage Racing
Association, a sentiment
echoed by the rest of the
organization. “As long as
it didn’t interfere with my
main goal (winning a points
race at Middle Georgia
Raceway) I’d race anywhere
(and whenever) I could find
a race.”
JERRY BARKER: That’s

Dollar Raceway in Reynolds
Saturday, where drivers are
slated to compete in the
sixth leg of the ET series.
Leaders after the fifth race

Taz Pines in Sportsman

couldn’t hit a curve.
As near as I can tell, ste
roids didn’t get anyone a
World Series ring, but with
‘roid rage, the loser prob
ably pouted a lot.
I think the reason fans
couldn’t get excited is
because there was no trial.
Also, there were so many
users that it was impossible
to focus on just one guy.
And, it wasn’t related to
sex.
From what I understand,
steroid users end up defi
cient in that area anyway.
No wonder they get mad. I’d
rage around some, too.
Then one of the main
players in the controversy
had the poor judgment to
get injured. Without Bonds
around to pillory, what’s a
muckraker to do?
There were other oppor

I thought that between

release some more pedo

But those gaffes met lim
ited public scrutiny. If it
wasn’t for Spurrier’s mouth,
the Vols fans wouldn’t have
had anything to rail about.
Then when his own players
showed up on police blotters,
he suddenly went quiet.
That’s the trouble with
saliva.
When you start frothing,
with the quality of humans
being recruited today,
there’s liable to be some
blowback.

The Braves are taking
a dive similar to a subma
rine, and I’m drowning with
them. Let it be noted that I
expressed some reservations
about their pitching staff
earlier this year.
I need a sports scandal to
take my mind of my favorite
team’s abysmal record, but
like the Rolling Stones, “I
can’t get no satisfaction.”
As Mick Jagger sang, “You
can’t always get what you
want, but if you try some
times, you just might find
you get what you need.”
I need a sustained scan
dal but when I look at the
Braves, who on the team
could provide the spark for
some salacious gossip.
Evidently, if you want
to peak the interest of the
American public, you have
to get a nose job, invest in
some serious skin dye and
have some inappropriate
predilections in sleeping
partners.
Yo! Atlanta Braves, do I
hear any volunteers? Take a
felony for the team.
