• In observance of National
HIV Testing Day, free and confi
dential HIV testing will be offered
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at
Colonial Mall Macon. This test
ing clinic will be held in The
Medical Center of Central
Georgia’s Community Health
and Education Center, upstairs
near Sears. Health educators
from the North Central Health
District (Public Health) and River
Edge Behavioral Health will
administer the testing. Certified
HIV counselors will be available
to provide support and guid
ance. The entire testing and
counseling process is estimated
to take about 20 minutes for
each client. No appointments
are necessary. Clients are asked
to bring some form of picture
identification. Testing for HIV
during this clinic will not involve
needles. The Ora-Sure method
will be used, which only requires
a small swab to be taken from
the client’s mouth. Results from
the tests are expected to be con
fidentially returned within one to

a full-time recruiter at Headquarters, 48th Brigade
Combat Team in Macon, helps Cadet Pvt. Ashanta
Edwards remove the rappelling rope attached to her
climbing harness during a weeklong Junior ROTC sum
mer camp at Camp Osbom, a Boy Scout facility near
Albany. Mickle, who lives in Warner Robins, is one of 24
Georgia Army Guardsmen who worked with 129 JROTC
students from six Georgia high schools. Edwards, 15, is a
student at Dodge County High School near Eastman.
During the annual camp, cadets learn the importance of
mental and physical conditioning and teamwork through
activities such as climbing and rappelling, land naviga
tion, first aid litter carrying and canoeing, as well as math
and science projects.

Summer Camp students
recently participated in cre
ating artwork to be put in a
Russian spacesuit that will
be put into space from the
International Space Station.
The ARISS project,
Amateur Radio on the
International Space Station,
includes a special compact
disk onboard the spacesuit
with school artwork.

ticipate will have their stu
dents’ artwork “fly” as part
of the space mission.
The project asked classes
to decorate a single 8-1/2 by
11-inch page of artwork that
“uniquely represents your
school” by June 15. Schools
then deliver their artistic
contributions electronically.
