PERRY - Marie F. Barrett, 57, died at
her residence on Tuesday, June 21, 2005.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday (TODAY) at Watson-Hunt Funeral
Home, with interment in Woodlawn
Cemetery. The Rev. George Durham will
officiate. Visitation was 6-8 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home. The fami
ly suggests contributions to Hospice of
Houston County.
Barrett was born in Wilcox County and was the daughter
of the late Lorce and Frances Fogarty. Sr. She was a home
maker, a lover of nature and avid gardener. She is survived
by her husband, Leonard Barrett Jr. of Perry; children,
Gayla Gibbs and Billy Barrett, both of Perry; mother-in-law,
Lilli Ann Barrett of Perry; brothers and sisters, Carolyn
Wittington of Quincy, Fla., Larry Fogarty and Mary Fogarty,
both of Perry, and Lorce “Junior” Fogarty of Marshallville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lori Thompson.

SADIE GRAY CAMP
PERRY - Sadie Gray Camp, 101, went to Heaven on June
20, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
June 25, 2005, at the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in
Perry, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation
will be at the church at 7 p.m. Friday (TODAY). She was
born on Sept. 5, 1903, in Riverside, Calif., the daughter of
the late Joseph and Betty (Garrett) Gray. Formerly of
Columbia, S.C., she had lived on the campground since
1980. A member of the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church
since 1944, she was a retired practical nurse and assisted
Sister Lois McLendon in opening the Church Home for the
Aged in 1960.
Survivors include: a daughter, Ruby Williams (Robert) of
Grayson; son, Douglas Camp (Ruth) of Perry; a sister, Mary
Foust of Perry; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren
and five great-great grandchildren.

Even though it’s summer,
Pearl Stephens Elementary
School in Warner Robins is
full of activity.
The school is host to the
Camp Can Do, a two-week
summer camp for children
with special needs.
During this period stu
dents children ages 4 to 21
have visited the skating
rink, eaten pizza, been to
the movies, visited a llama
farm and the Children’s
Museum in Macon.
These activities were pos
sible thanks to a golf tour
nament held that raised
$7,000. Some corporate
sponsors were Outback
Steakhouse, Avaya, and
Parrish Construction.

Warner Robins Police are seeking
two men in connection with a

Police responded at 2:42 a.m. to the
Russell Parkway Kroger concerning an
armed robbery in the parking lot. The
victim reported two men approached
her as she got into her car after leaving
the store.
One of the men reportedly produced
a handgun and demanded her purse,

without communication for
the whole summer. She said
this may be because others
at home may not know how
to sign.
“This is enrichment for
them, and the most exciting
adventure I’ve ever been
on,” Geary said.
This is Geary’s second
year teaching at the camp.
During the school year she
serves as an interpreter at
Lake Joy Elementary
School.
“Children are able to
socialize with other children
that can communicate with
them,” she said.
Director of the camp is
Phyllis Bynum-Grace, who
has directed the camp for 17
years of its 20 years.

a black male, about 18-21 years old, 5-
foot-9 to 5-foot-11 inches in height,
with a slender build. He was wearing a

Girdner was born in Stilwell, Okla. She
was of the Baptist faith. She retired from
Bell South as a plant assigner. Her husband, Reid J. Girdner;
parents, Luke and Flora Crittenden, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Kerry Girdner of Warner
Robins; sons, David Girdner of Bonaire, Steven Girdner of
Kathleen; and grandson, Jacob Kilraine of Warner Robins.

KATHERINE JANE PEACOCK THOMAS
WARNER ROBINS - Katherine Jane Peacock Thomas,
67, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in Macon. Services
will be at 11 a.m. Friday (TODAY) in the First United
Methodist Church of Warner Robins with burial at 2 p.m.
Friday in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Eastman. Visitation
was from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Thomas was born in Eastman to Roy and Ruth Peacock.
She graduated from Dodge County High School and Georgia
Southern College in Statesboro, with a bachelor’s degree in
elementary education. She taught in Bibb County, Dodge
County, Vidalia City and Houston County for a total of 30
years. She was a member of the Georgia Association of
Educators and the National Education Association.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church
in Warner Robins. While in the church, she taught Sunday
School, was the president of the Friendship Sunday School
Class for a number of years, she was a circle leader, a mem
ber of Circle 2 and the Keenagers.
She was a charter member and former president of the
Kiwanis of Warner Robins, a member of NARFE, a member
of the Daughters of the Nile and the Pageantry Unit, where
she was a director for a number of years and a member of
the Forget Me Nots (Shriners’ widows).

She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Peacock, her
husband, Chalmers “Red” Thomas and her good friend,
George W. Gardner Jr.
She is survived by her mother Ruth A. Peacock of
Eastman; her stepdaughter Sue Sapp (Allen) of Bonaire;
her stepsons David Loraine Thomas (Jeanette) of Cochran,
Larry Thomas (Gwen), Chalmers “Bo” Thomas Jr., George
Thomas (Swantje), Norman Thomas (Rosemary) and
Kenneth Thomas (Betty); several stepgrandchildren, which
include Tracy and Thomas Gilleland of Bonaire, and John
and Robert (Lisa) Thomas of Cochran.

BONAIRE - Mary Ellen Wood, 68, passed away on
Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Medical Center of Central
Georgia. Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June
23, 2005 (TODAY), at McCullough Funeral Home. Services
will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, at River of
Light Church of God. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. June 24,
2005, in Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell.
Wood was born in Fannin County. She attended River of
Light Church of God. She owned her own ceramics busi
ness. Her husbands, Johnny William Britt Sr. (1964);
Ernest L. Wood (1995); parents, Everett and Bainer Roper,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, James E. Britt (Lisa) of
Kathleen, Johnny W. Britt Jr. of Buford, Cecil P Britt
(Michelle) of North Little Rock, Ricky Wood (Donna) of
Buford; daughter, Faye Wood (John Riddle) of Ft. Walton
Beach; grandchildren, Rebekah, Lindsay, Tyler, Dustin,
Matthew, Brandon, Taylor, Brian, John, Rip, Jonnie; great
grandchildren, Makaylah, Noah, Trevor, Travis, Rebecca;
siblings, Wylene, Jackie, and Lola.
