Why won't my cable modem surf the Internet?
Dear TechnoFiles:
I just got high-speed
Internet installed in my
house, but I haven’t been
able to get it to work.
They came out and check
the wire going into the
house and confirmed it
was good, and all the
lights on the cable
modem are green. My
computer seems fine
running Windows XP,
and otherwise looks and
acts normally, but I still
can’t surf. Any ideas? -
Andrew B.
Dear Andrew:
Assuming you have con
nectivity, what could be the
problem is your Internet
Protocol (IP) address needs
to be reset, which will allow
the cable modem to reassign
another one to you. Also
assuming you’ve tried the
rebooting your computer
and unplugging your cable
modem routine, it’s now

any country could produce
such things if its people and
economy are truly free.

Dear TechnoFiles,
How do I clean up some
a lot of old Hies, both
software and data, from
my hard drive without
purchasing more soft
ware? - Dave
Dear Dave,
There is a utility that is
included in almost all ver
sions of Windows, called
Disk Cleanup. Disk Cleanup
helps you free up space on
your hard drive by searching
your drive for temporary
files, Internet cache files,
and other unnecessary pro
gram files that you can safe
ly delete.
To use Disk Cleanup, fol
low these directions:
1. Click the Start button
and select Programs.
2. Mouse over Accessories,
select System Tools, and
then click Disk Cleanup.
3. Select the drive you
want to run Disk Cleanup
on and click OK.
4. Disk Cleanup will
search your drive and calcu
late the amount of space
being used for five different
categories. These five cate
gories include Temporary
Internet Files, Downloaded
Program Files, Recycle Bin,
Old Scan Disk Files in the
Root folder, and Temporary
Files. Be patient - this step
may take a while depending
on how many of these files
you have on your drive.
5. Place a checkmark next
to each category of files
you’d like to delete (proba
bly all of them!)
6. Click the View Files

and the Iraq War are both unjust
and unwarranted and the chances
are that we will declare victory in
Iraq and just leave! Just like in
Vietnam!

yard of our home playing, when a
man pulled to the side of the house
and called the girls over to his car.
He then exposed his self and
grabbed my daughter’s hand and
made her touch him. I am horri

car after many talks about

horrified that this sort of thing
would happen right in my yard
with me sitting on my couch.
I of course called the police
immediately and my daughter and
her friend gave the police as good
of a description that two 5-year

inform you of that description. It
was a four-door light blue car,
driven by a white male with dark

half of Perry, but if you have chil
