Last week’s Eye Q por

It was fun to know who’s in

every Saturday night. On
the invitation list for our

Agnes Farr, Jolene Pierson,
Terry Everett, Martha

Charlotte's Literary Quiz
Okay, back to The Serious
Stuff.
Give the the name of the
poet who wrote the lines
below, and give the missing
last line. Also, give the
author of a book which
bears that last line as a title.
You may bury my body in
Sussex grass,
You may bury my tongue
at Champmedy.
I shall not be there. I shall
rise and pass.
(What is this line?)
Last week's cognoscenti
Stephanie Evanovich cre
ated the indomitable bounty
hunter, Stephanie Plum,
whose cars keep blowing up.
Her two men are Joe
Morelli and Ranger. The lat
est book - just out last week
- is “Eleven on Top.” (You
can find the first ten in
paperback just about any
where that sells books) Her
favorite junk foods are
TastyKakes and jelly dough
nuts, but I’ve decided to
accept any fast food as well
since the woman lives on
junk. Laurie Jones, Terry
Everett, Betsy Bazemore,
Martha Alexander, Bill
Harrison and Terry Everett
got it right. Evelyn Evans
made a good case for Sue
Grafton’s Kinsey Milhone,
by the way!
Georgia Geniuses
There is only one county
in Georgia named after a
woman, and that’s Hart
County, named after
Revolution War heroine
Nancy Hart. Laurie Jones,
Betsy Bazemore,Agnes Farr,
Mike Stanley, Jolene
Pierson, Bill Harrison,
Evelyn Evans and Terry
Everett all got it right.

Remembering rides of a lifetime
Last summer 1 went to
Walt Disney World for the
first time in almost 15
years. It’s still a magical
place for me, even though I
can’t see the park through a
child’s eyes. But now, as an
adult, I notice all the little
things. From the subtle
music changes that transi
tion you to different areas
of the Magic Kingdom to
the foreign exchange stu
dents who are willing to
talk to you in every country
of the World Showcase at
Epcot, Disney offers a
chance to escape reality.
But not everything at
Walt Disney World is still
there. As time passed and
the park changed, old rides
were replaced with new.
But something always gets
lost in the mix. Here are a
few rides and attractions I
miss:

unique view of the park,
soaring high above on cable
cars. A number of theme
parks have transitioned
these rides out of operation
due to safety concerns, but
when I was a kid, I didn’t
care. This was a great
opportunity to take pictures
from a unique angle, and
enjoy a quiet break from
the crowds below.
4. Discovery Island:
I never got a chance to
visit this nature preserve,
Story and photos

One of a child’s greatest
achievements is learning
how to read. Perry Public
Library’s Vacation Reading
Programs which started
May 31, makes reading fun
every Wednesday morning.
Perry Library’s theme this
year “Under the Big Top”
lets children discover the
importance of reading and
the fun of it also. Recently
the Library held a “Big Top
Carnival.”
Children keep track of
how many hours they spent
reading, and the library
staff creates a friendly and
fun reading environment for
kids all ages.
There are many exciting
weekly programs. They’ve
already held a Dog Safety
Show and Tell. On July 6,
there will be a talent show.
On July 13 is Dr. Tom’s
Semi-Silent Theatre will
present a program of a mim
ing, clowning, juggling, and
other antics. On July 20,
Perry Library Kid’s club will
present “The Magic
Bookcase.” July 27 is the
awards show date for top
tucked away from other
parts of the resort. I’ll
always regret it. This
island attraction was closed
when Disney opened its
Animal Kingdom park in
the late 19905. The island
featured interesting animal
attractions and offered a
peaceful getaway. One
beach on the island even
featured a wrecked pirate
ship.
3. Horizons:
This Epcot Center attrac
tion was replaced by
Mission: Space, a popular
attraction that simulates
spaceflight. Horizons was
one of the coolest rides in
the park, focusing on man’s
visions of the future, past
and present. It featured
trips to a desert farm of the
future, a space colony, and
even an undersea lab.
Towards the end of the ride,
passengers could pick their
own ending from a selection
of fast-moving video clips.
I’ve always wanted to see
every ending.

2. 20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea:
This ride took passengers
on the Disney version of
Jules Verne classic story. It
featured a trip through a
tropical lagoon, a journey
under the polar ice caps,
and a visit to the lost conti
nent of Atlantis, complete
with mermaids. Cheesiness
aside, the atmosphere of
this ride alone made it
worth the never-ending
lines. This ride was
replaced with a character
greeting area. All that’s left
of the original landscaping
is a lagoon where children
can get their picture taken
with Ariel from Disney’s
“The Little Mermaid.”
1. Mr. Toad’s Wild
Ride
The best of the lost
Disney rides, this fast-paced
adventure took “drivers” on
the crazy adventures of Mr.
Toad, a character from
Kenneth Grahame’s “Wind
in the Willows.” Riders

This popular attraction was

Winnie the Pooh. I like the
new ride, but park officials
should have never closed

found at Disneyland in
California.

Next time you have the

be around next time.
