TUESDAY July 5, 2005 Volume 135, Number 387 Award-Winning Newspaper 2005 Better Newspaper Contest In BRIEF Women snatch purse in WR Authorities are looking for two women who reportedly stole a purse from a woman around 6 p.m. Sunday at Wal-Mart, 2720 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins. The victim told Warner Robins police officers that two women had taken her purse from her shopping cart while her back was turned. She said she fol lowed the suspects to the parking lot, demanding they return her purse. The women left the parking lot traveling towards Watson Boulevard in a silver vehi cle, possibly a Mercury Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria, with an Auto Auction drive-out tag. The victim’s purse was recovered from the road side on Houston Avenue in Macon. An unknown amount of cash was miss ing, along with the vic tim’s credit cards. The women are described as being black, approximately 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 in height, slender build, one with short black hair and the other with braided hair. The base support group was in attendance at a BRAC Regional hearing in Atlanta last week. The hearing was held for bases affected by the recommendation issued in May by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Locals prepare care packages American Legion post, auxiliary accepting money, supplies for more shipments By TIMOTHY GRAHAM HHJ Staff Writer A group of Warner Robins residents got together on Saturday and gave up a part of their July 4 holiday week end in order to help make life easier for some of our troops in Afghanistan. Members of American Legion Post 172 and its Ladies Auxiliary Unit gath ered to put together seven personal care packages to send to the troops. “We are going to start out by sending seven packages today, and in another month or so we will send more depending on the money and supplies we get,” said Ladies Auxiliary President Dottie Scarbary. The post is looking for donations or money or sup plies to send to the troops. Any money donated will be used to purchase supplies. In the process, the commission will evalu ate the Pentagon’s plan for closing and realigning domestic military installations, including Robins Air Force Base, Georgia’s largest employer and largest industrial complex.
