Stocking fish is a sight
that not many people get
to see.
However, each year hun
dreds of thousands of small
fish, that have taken weeks
to produce, make their way
from fish hatcheries to their
new homes in Georgia’s res
ervoirs.
Recently, the Georgia
Department of Natural
Resources, Wildlife
Resources Division complet
ed the stocking of 3.5 mil
lion striped and hybrid bass
in public waterways for the
enjoyment of the almost 30
percent of anglers statewide
that fish for these species.

Chief of Fisheries John Biagi.
“Every time an angler pur

Historically, strip

Hybrid bass are an artifi
cially produced species that
provide an additional excit
ing fishing opportunity for
anglers.
Striped bass, which can
reach sizes in excess of 50
pounds, typically have about
seven heavy and distinct
black stripes running the
length of their body while
hybrids, which weigh about
3-8 pounds, have the same
amount of stripes, but they
appear“broken.”
Over 2.2 million Atlantic
striped bass fingerlings
(one-inch fish) were raised
and stocked in public waters
this year, exceeding the state
goal of 1.5 million. Twenty
six adult female striped bass
were spawned to produce all
the fingerlings.

reason not to expect good
things from here on out.”

it seems weird to have
an All-Star game without
them.
The way in which players
are chosen is a topic of hot
debate.
Starters are chosen by
the popular vote of fans,
while reserves and pitchers
are voted on by the players
and the All-Star manager.
Some say that letting
the fans vote on the par
ticipants makes the game
a popularity contest rather
than an exhibition of the
greatest players.
While I think there is some
validity to this, any system
that they use is going to be
somewhat flawed.
I like the idea of know

Moriah Cadenhead sacrifices. She drove in two runs in
the game, one from her sacrifice bunt.
I like the idea ot knowing that I can go
to a baseball game, fill out a card, and
have an impact on who makes the
All-Star team.
and have an impact on who
makes the All-Star team.
On the same token, this
leaves the door open for
deserving players to lose
starting positions just
because they are not popu

A good example of this
comes forth in the National
League outfield.

However, Carlos Beltran

In anything like this,
there are going to be things
to discuss and argue over.
I do think, though, that
something as successful as
the MLB All-Star Game
should be left untampered.
