SOUTHERN HHJ Staff Writer The Houston Board of Education officially set a special purpose local option sales tax referendum for Sept. 20, in a called meeting Friday. Carrick said he had received a tip that Parrish was in the area. Board member Skip Dawkins made a motion to accept and move forward with the SPLOST vote and board member Jim Boswell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. With the 1-percent sales tax, the board hopes to acquire, construct and equip Club in Bonaire, where Parrish side swiped a car while trying to elude police and lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a ditch near a wooded area. Carrick said Parrish fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended minutes later. Police allege that Parrish was driving a stolen car and was driving under the influence. According to reports, Parrish was also arrested for possession of methampheta- two new elementary schools, two new middle schools and one new high school. If funds are available, one additional new elementary school will be built, and land for future schools and instructional and adminis trative technology will be purchased. Improvements and renovation of existing schools will also be done. Superintendent Danny Carpenter informed those present at the meeting of the continuing growth in the county. He said updated research estimates 18,200 additional housing units are to be built in the county. Lisa Angell hopes that, with the help of a gen erous community, she can help rebuild the playground at Memorial Park off First Street. “The playground there is unsafe,” said Angell. “The equipment there is old and does not meet current safety standards.
