Several indicted, jailed on meth trafficking charges

Thanks to pending court
cases, about two dozen
alleged methamphetamine
makers, sellers and users
were jailed in the past few
weeks.
The first was an 11-month
joint investigation between
July 29, 2004, and June 27,
with the Warner Robins
Narcotics Intelligence Unit
and the Athens Clarke
County Drug Unit into the
methamphetamine traffick
ing of Richard Charles
Allen. The case resulted in
the federal indictments on
June 27 on the following
persons for conspiracy to
possess with intent to dis
tribute methamphetamine:
Georgia sales tax holiday set for July 28-31

ATLANTA - For the
fourth consecutive year,
Georgia shoppers will have
the opportunity to purchase
certain clothing items,
schools supplies, computers,
and computer accessories
tax-free during a sales tax
holiday that begins at 12:01
a.m., Thursday, July 28, and
continues until midnight
Sunday, July 31.
“Thanks to the tax-free
holiday, Georgians will find
school supplies and other
items more affordable,” said
Gov. Sonny Perdue. “Past
experience shows that retail
stores will also benefit from
an increase in sales, helping
local economies to prosper.”
Purchases of personal
computers and accessories
are exempt up to $1,500 per
transaction. Items included
in the personal computer
exemption category include
monitors, personal comput
er base units, keyboards,
handheld computers, moni
tors, printers, modems, non
recreational software, and
other peripheral devices.
Personal digital assistants
are exempt unless they
allow voice communication.
Other items that are not
exempt include regular cell
phones, digital cameras, fur
niture and any systems,
devices, software, or periph
erals designed or intended
primarily for recreational
use.
School supplies bought for
classroom use or classroom
related activities are exempt
if they cost S2O or less per
item. Included in this area
are pens, pencils, notebooks,
paper, book bags, calcula
tors, dictionaries, the
sauruses, children’s books,
and books listed on

tax will be due on the pur
chase of any single school
supply item that exceeds
S2O.
Clothing and footwear are
exempt up to SIOO per item,
but there is no limit on how
many pairs of shoes and
clothing items an individual
can buy. If the price of an
article of clothing or pair of
shoes exceeds SIOO, then the
item will be taxed at its full
retail price. Clothing acces
sories, jewelry, handbags,
umbrellas, eyewear, watch
es, watchbands, and similar
items are not exempt from
sales tax during the tax-free
period.
The sales tax exemption is
intended only for individu
als and their personal use. It
does not apply to purchases

Special Election Notice
A call is hereby issued to all registered voters of the City of Warner
Robins, GA for a Special Municipal Election on Tuesday, September 20,2005.
The purpose of the election is to fill the unexpired term of
Council Post 6, term to expire December 31,2007.
Qualifying for this office will open at B:3oam on August 1,2005 and
continue until closing date of August 5,2005 at 4:3opm. Place of
qualifying shall be City Hall, City Clerk's Office, 700 Watson Blvd.
Qualifying fee for Council Post 6, District 6 is $252.00.
The election will be held on Tuesday, September 20,2005 between the
hours of 7:ooam to 7:oopm. The voting precincts are:
• Northside Senior High School - For voters living in District 6
• Absentee Ballot Precinct - City Clerk's Office, 700 Watson Blvd. (Office Hours)
Absentee Voting (No voting the day of election)
If necessary, a runoff election will be held on October 11,2005. The last
day to register to vote for this election is August 22,2005.
