Chamber endorses
school SPLOST
By TERESA D. SOUTHERN
HHJ Staff Writer
The Houston County Board
of Education voted to present
a sales tax referendum to vot
ers on Sept. 20, and the
Warner Robins Area Chamber
of Commerce has passed a
resolution endorsing the
effort.
The chamber resolved to
endorse the referendum the
Houston County Board of
Education will put before the
voters, and encourage their
members and Houston
County citizens to support the
passage of the special purpose
local option sales tax
(SPLOST).
The chamber gave several
reasons for its approval, not
ing that the population of
Houston County is growing at
an unprecedented rate and
population projections indi
cates there will be a steady,
accelerating relocation of fam
ilies into the Warner Robins
area.
The chamber also noted
that the school board needs
additional resources to con
struct new facilities and reha
bilitate existing ones in order
to meet the needs of the grow
ing population and to main
tain a high quality education-

accomplice waited outside the

al system.
“This chamber is solidly
committed to supporting the
SPLOST referendum because
it’s the right thing to do,” said
Frank Feild, president and
CEO of the Warner Robins
Area Chamber of Commerce.
“There has been a tremen
dous amount of growth in the
area. A lot of people come here
for the school system, and
that’s not something we
should be ashamed of.”
He said the chamber has
supported SPLOST in the
past, but never in the form of
a resolution.
“We want to be up front
that we are 100 percent
behind the Board of
Education,” Feild said,
To encourage its member
ship Feild said the chamber
plans to have its board of
directors speak directly with
members answering ques
tions and concerns, and
address members in their
business bulletin and press
releases.
Feild said they also plan to
support Jack Steed, a past
chamber chairman with his
grass roots education cam
paign to gather representa
tives of the county to support
the SPLOST.
POLICE BRIEF
Both suspects fled on foot
and no injuries were sus
tained during the incident,

foot to 6-foot-2, 250 pounds,
wearing a white T-shirt and
black shorts. The accomplice,
of unknown weight or height,
was wearing a light blue T
shirt and blue jeans.
