JULIAN BRYANT STEVENS
PERRY - Julian Bryant
Stevens went to Glory on
July 15, 2005. Funeral
service was at 3 p.m.
Sunday, July 17, in the
chapel of Macon Memorial Park
Funeral Home. Glenn Lyles officiated.
Stevens was born in Jones County on
Aug. 29, 1915. He was taken out of
school in the sixth grade to work on the
family farm during the Great
Depression. He later learned the skilled trade of welding at
a shop in Macon as a young man, after successfully farming
with his brother, William Stevens, on the family farm. The
actions and sacrifices in farming during the Great
Depression saved their family farm from foreclosure and
sale.
Stevens served his country at the Charleston Navy Yard
in World War 11, building destroyers and escort vessels for
the United States Navy. He later relocated his family to
Macon, where he began work as a welder. He later worked
at Robins Air Force Base. After his retirement from Robins
Air Force Base, he relocated to Perry, where he worked on
the family farm with his son, Larry Stevens.
Stevens was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and
great grandfather. He was a caring, kind, and giving soul;
the very personification of a true Southern gentleman. His
cheerful demeanor and positive approach to life was an
inspiration for many.
Stevens loved his God, he loved his country, and he loved
his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his daughters, Judy Ann Stevens
and Patsy Sharon Stevens.
Stevens is survived by his wife, Mary Burnice Stevens of
Perry; his son, Larry B. Stevens of Perry; his daughter-in
law, Claire Stevens of Perry; three grandchildren, Judy
Stevens of Valdosta, Bryant Stevens (Keri) of Perry, Ricky
Stevens (Amy) of Cordele; one great-grandchild, Abigail
Stevens of Cordele; three sisters, Mary More of Dacula,
Elizabeth Dorsey of East Point, Ellen Kemp of Macon; three
brothers, William A. Stevens of Macon, Delano Stevens of
Winfield, La., and Franklin Stevens of Salisbury, N.C.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in
the funeral home.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery had
charge of arrangements.
