see a tiny decrease this year.

chairman of the board of the
Houston-Middle Georgia
Chapter of the American
Red Cross, at Tuesday
night’s annual business din
ner and meeting.
Person accepted the gavel
from outgoing chair Sharon
Jackson.
The meeting opened with
a short talk by Joy Ashley,
Key Spouse coordinator for
the Family Support Center
at Robins Air Force Base.
Ashley recounted how her
home caught fire in 2002,
and how meaningful the
Red Cross’ aid was for her
family at that time of crisis.
“When I tell you that
everything I had in my
house was gone, I’m not kid
ding,” Ashley said.
But later that night, as
she and her family went
shopping for toothbrushes
and other essentials, “I just

local chapter offers people in
those first few days after
they suffer a fire loss.

for the year. The chapter
brought in $305,699 in rev
enue, and had $255,934 in
expenditures during the fis
cal year.

‘Dragon Lady’ marks 50th anniversary today with week-long celebrations

Robins Air Force Base has
a week of celebrations
planned to honor the 50
years of service the famous
U-2 reconnaissance aircraft
from 14.34 mills to 14.33 and still
generate $3.7 million - enough,
Gilmour said, to fund the city’s 2006
budget.
A mill is 1/10 of 1 percent, or $1

Styx to perform;

Officials with the Georgia
National Fair have booked
classic rock acts REO
Speedwagon and Styx to
perform at the 2005 Georgia
National Fair.
The concert is expected to
begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct.
14, in Reaves Arena.
Officials with the Georgia
National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter (GNFA) have
also released a full slate of
performers for this year’s
fair, including legendary
performer Hank Williams
Jr., rising country star
Gretchen Wilson, along with
the Country Gold Tour fea
turing Leroy Van Dyke,
among others.
Slated to open for Wilson
is Taylorsville, Ky. native
Shannon Lawson, whose
sound blends a variety of
musical styles including,
