baseman Jensen Barrett
and catcher Katie Farinelli
opened their varsity seasons
with singles in the bottom of
the first.
Farinelli finished with two
RBIs and Barrett went two
for three, getting another
single in the fourth.
“It was nerve racking,”
Barrett said of her first high
school game. “We won with
hitting and fielding.”
Farinelli had the daunting
task of catching Demonettes’
ace Kristen Graham.
“I caught her in Little
League last year,” the fresh
man said. “It wasn’t really
new.
“I wanted us to do well,”
she added. “We’ve been prac
ticing hard for a month.”
Warner Robins was due to
open its season last Tuesday
against Carver, but the lat

Central and Warner Robins
was ready.
The Demonettes scored in
every inning but the third.
They added three in the sec
ond on three hits and an
error and led 7-0.
Graham hit the first of
two triples in the game. Her
second triple resulted in a
Warner Robins’ run in the
fourth to put the Demonettes
up 8-0.
Warner Robins took advan
tage of two Central errors
and a couple of singles to
push across the final two
runs necessary to end the
game on the 10-run mercy
rule.
“It’s inexperience and
inconsistency,” said Central
head coach Jennifer
Raymond. “Only four girls
on the team started last
year.”
Central committed eight
errors in its loss. Losing
pitcher Lindsey Sumner
allowed just two earned runs
in the game.”
They weren’t hitting
the ball either. Graham
pitched three innings for the

three innings.
“My curve and rise (ball)

“I’ve been working hard all

Her plan coming into the

pitches.
She gave way to Amber

She finished the game with

Special to the HHJ
Warner Robins High
Demonettes hosted a
junior varsity tournament
Saturday.
It was scheduled for
Friday and Saturday but
inclement weather claimed
the first day, with most of
those games compacted into
the second day.
Seven teams played with
the first game being between
host Warner Robins and
Perry. That began at 8 a.m.
Behind strong pitching
by Jensen Barrett and hot
bats, the Demonettes beat
the Lady Panthers 11-4.
Westside and Baldwin
County both played strong
defense in the second game
of the day to keep it close
with the Lady Braves win
ning 3-1.
Peach County and
Northside squared off next
in what started off a pitch
ing battle with Mallory
Brigman pitching a strong
game for the Lady Eagles.
The bats came alive for
Northside in the third
inning and Brigman was
able to hold off the Lady
Trojans 9-2.
The bats that were hot
for Northside just a game
before cooled off next, while

Baldwin County’s heated
up along with the afternoon
sun.
The Lady Braves seemed
to find the openings to beat
the Lady Eagles 12-4.
Baldwin had no break
from the heat as they met
Perry in the very next
game.
With their bats still hot,
they managed to hold Perry
to three runs to win 7-3.
Baldwin finished the tour
nament 3-0.
Westside was back up
again next, this time against
a strong Houston County
team.
Westside struck early get
ting three runs in the Ist
inning and then managed
to hold onto the lead until
the third when the Lady
Bears capitalized on several
errors to score two runs of
their own.
Houston County’s pitcher,
Ashley Jones, shut Westside
down not allowing another
run, but Westside wouldn’t
need any more beating it
3-2.
Game 7 of the afternoon,

this time battling the strong
offense of Peach County.
