MICHAEL “MIKE" MEEKS
WARNER ROBINS - Michael Meeks, 60, passed away on
Aug. 28, 2005, in his home. Graveside services will be held
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005 (TODAY), at Magnolia
Park Mausoleum. Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at McCullough Funeral Home.
Meeks was born in Thomaston. He was of the Baptist
faith. He retired at Robins Air Force Base from civil service.
His parents, Ernest and Agnes Meeks, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his wife, Wannie Meeks of Warner
Robins; daughters, Beth Tyson of Warner Robins, Michelle
Leary (Bill) of Byron; stepchildren, Joey Moore (Kim) of
Cochran, Andrea Giddens (David) of Cochran; 11 grand
children; brother, James Meeks of Thomaston.

entries in the Patriot’s Pen
essay writing contest and
the Voice of Democracy
scholarship contest.
Local, District,
Department and National
Awards will be given.
Deadline for both Patriot’s
Pen and Voice of Democracy
is midnight Nov. 1.
Patriots Pen
Patriot’s Pen is a youth
essay writing contest
endorsed by the National
Association of Secondary
School Principals. The com
petition gives students in
sixth, seventh and eighth
grade the opportunity to
write essays expressing
their views on democracy.
The top 31 national win
ners will all receive at least a
SI,OOO savings bond. The
first-place national award is
currently a SIO,OOO savings
bond plus an all-expense
paid trip to Washington,
D.C., for the winner and a
parent or guardian.
Contestants write a 300-
400 word essay based on this
year’s theme: “Who Are
Today’s Patriots?”
All essays are to be type
written in English with no
color or graphics. The com
pleted essay must be sub
mitted by midnight Nov. 1.
Contestants may not iden
tify themselves, their school,
city or state in their essay.
Do not put your name on
the essay; the entry form is
your essay’s cover sheet.

This scholarship program
annually provides more
than $3 million in scholar
ships. Each Department’s
first-place winner receives
an all-expense paid trip to
Washington, D.C., plus the
opportunity to compete for
national scholarships. The
first-place national winner
receives a $25,000 scholar
ship.
The Voice of Democracy is
endorsed by the National
Association of Secondary
School Principal’s and is an
audio essay contest for high
school students in ninth
through 12th grade.
The annual contest, which
is designed to foster patriot
ism, allows the students an
opportunity to voice their
opinion in a three- to five
minute essay based on this
year’s theme: “How
I Demonstrate My
Freedom.” Students may be
enrolled in a public, private
or parochial high school or
home study program.

standard cassette tape or
CD. Label your cassette or
CD and neatly typed essay
with your name and com
plete an entry form obtained
