she has some experience
with this type of shelter.
“I took a three-day train
ing session last year on how
to run a rescue shelter in
case of just such a disaster
as this,” said Wynn. “We
learned how to open a shel
ter, the resources we would
need, and how to get the
supplies. We were trained to
respond to livestock as well
as house pets.”
Wynn said that the service
they provide is extremely
important to some survivors
of disasters.
“For some of these people
the only thing they have let
in the world is their pet,”
she said. “They may have
lost their home, but at least
they still have their pet and
we help rescue these ani
mals. Their pets are just like
family to them and they

Wynn said that every ani
mal that is brought into the
shelter is photographed,
cleaned, and housed until
their owner arrives or they
are adopted. There is a Web
site at www.noahswish.org
where people can submit a
description of their pets. If
the animal has been rescued
they will get in touch with
the owner to arrange a
homecoming.
Michelle Swafford of the
local HARPS chapter said
they got word of the shelter
opening on Thursday.
“We got word that sup
plies were needed on
Thursday and we started
sending out emails,” she
said. “The response has
been great. People have
donated anything from one
bag of food to a whole truck
could build a good work
ing relationship with,”
Mims said. “I already had
that with these guys.
“You want a company
you know will do good
work.”
Mims said the company
is offering to sell the ban
ners to the board at the
same price they offered
for the Fort Valley project
in 2002.
“We exist to provide an
atmosphere where down
town businesses can
thrive,” Mims said. “I
really think that these
banners can do that.”

Wynn said that she hopes
to find a lot of happy stories
in Louisiana.
“These animals can sur
vive for several days if their
owners left them food and
they did not tie them down,”
she said. “We are optimistic
that we can save as many as
possible. The owners really
had no choice but to leave
them behind and we hope
we can help rescue them. We
know we will see some horri
ble things, but we also know
we will see some happy
things too.”
Wyrtn said that anyone
interested in taking the
three-day animal rescue
training session she men
tioned can log on to the
Noah’s Wish Web site and
get the necessary informa
tion.
Noah’s Wish is an organi-
downtown streets and
planters to brighten the
downtown area. Perry is
already in the second
year of a three-year pro
gram with a Rochester,
N.Y.-based company to
hang banners in the city,
but the DDA and UPP
wanted their own pro
gram for just the down
town area. At their last
meeting in late August,
the board agreed to pay
the city S2O per banner to
hang the banners along
city streets.
Tuggle said the group
plans to continue selling
the banners throughout
the month of September.
