Top 25 repaving priority
list sent to state
By RAY UGHTNER
HHJ Staff Writer
Is your road on the list?
Houston County submit
ted its priority list of the top
25 roads it would like to see
repaved to the state
Department of
Transportation for possible
funding under the local
assistance road program.
“The state issues so much
for asphalt each year to each
county,” explained
Commissioner Larry
Thomson, so the county
engineering and roads staff
compiled the top 25 list.
Commission Chairman
Ned Sanders said the list is
in order of priority but that
is not necessarily the order
in which they will be
repaved/resurfaced because
of the allocation of funds
from the DOT. Sanders
noted the DOT’s Local
Assistance Road Program
(LARP) list is for repaving
or resurfacing of existing
roads, not paving of dirt
roads.
Moody Road tops the list,
with the request for
repaving between Ga. 96
and Ga. 127.
The list, in order of priori
ty, continues with Grovania
Road, from Pyles Road to
Elko Road; Antebellum
Circle beginning and ending
off Houston Lake
Boulevard; Mason Drive,
between Ola Drive and
Archdale Drive; Tidwell
Road, between Moody Road
and Mt. Zion Road; Mt. Zion
Road, between Houston
Lake Road and Ga. 96;
Wimberly Road, between
U.S. 341 and the end of the
pavement; Horseshoe Drive
beginning and ending at
Heritage Drive; Joshua
Street, from Ga. 224 to dead
end; Cliff Howard Road,

left when Gunn Road was
rerouted and straightened.
Surrounding property
owner Charlie McGlamry
said the portion of the old
road is about 1,200 feet long
and 25 feet wide. He also
asked that the old oak tree
in the area be preserved and
