Here are some helpful
hints to help you make
a decision:

how the area will be
used. If you want a

a three season room is

Window Daylighting?
Homeowners Looking To Improve Their Home
Should Consider Window Paylighting
(NAPS) - Daylighting, a meth
od of brightening and improving
residential interiors by increased
use of windows and skylights, is
one of the most popular trends
for homeowners looking to re
model, according to the National
Association of Remodeling In
dustry (NARI). Scientists claim
that natural lighting in a home
can enhance the mood and pro
ductivity of its residents as well
as provide an appealing spec
trum of color. In addition, the
NARI reports that the number
of windows per home has in
creased from an average of 8.6 to
15.5 per home in the past decade,
with today's larger replacement
1.22211 Z£2,
window sizes resulting in eight to ten percent more glass per window.
In the past, a roadblock for many homeowners considering daylighting
was the potential security concern connected to added window use. Now,
impactresistant windows and doors made with a new type of glass called
Keep Safe allows homeowners to draw more natural light into their home
without the security issues traditionally associated with windows.
Keep Safe glass is a laminated glass that offers homeowners protection
from the elements without sacrificing the beauty of the outdoors. Made
by permanently bonding a tough plastic interlayer between two pieces of
glass under heat and pressure, Keep Safe glass withstands impacts from
common burglary tools such as crowbars or baseball bats, staying intact
within the frame and keeping burglars outside of the home. Keep Safe
glass also helps protect home furnishings from harmful ultra violet (UV)
rays which can damage and fade home interiors over time.
"Windows work well in a home's recreational areas, such as a great room
or family room, as well as a master suite or kitchen," says Alan Hummel,
senior residential appraiser with the U.S. Appraisal Institute. "Natural
lighting in the kitchen especially brings so much to the property and its
value."
Windows and doors made with Keep Safe glass also allow homeowners
to add skylights and sun porches to their homes reducing the risk of UV
damage and the threat of burglaries.

3) Choose a contrac
tor who guarantees his
work. Use a company
with its own installers,
if possible. Get refer
rals, check references
and be certain the com
pany has been in busi
ness for more than ten
years. Also check with
your local Better Busi

thing goes wrong, the
company will be there

that writes it. If the
company goes out of
business, so does your
guarantee. Compare
quotes with an eye to
wards detail. If two
quotes seem far apart,
ask the contractor for
specific reasons. There
may be good ones such
as quality of workman

als, and sturdiness of
beams. Be sure all ma
terials are tested for
strength and durabil
ity and meet or exceed
building codes. Assume
that you pay more for
quality and not twice
the price.
All of these add up to
a beautiful recreational
outdoor living area
that you will be proud
to own and live in for
many years to come.
