Two more lawsuits filed in Atlanta court house shootings DECATUR - Two more lawsuits have been filed against Fulton County Sheriff Myron Freeman and some deputies in the courthouse shootings that left a judge and three oth ers dead last year. The new cases were filed Thursday in DeKalb County State Court, where complaints brought by the survivors of Judge Rowland Barnes, court reporter Julie Ann Brandau, Fulton County deputy Sgt. Hoyt Teasley and federal agent David Wilhelm also were filed. The latest lawsuits were filed by Susan Christy and Gina, Clarke, who were case managers for Judge Barnes. The lawsuits echo many of the same complaints brought up in the four other lawsuits. Christy and Clarke did not include in their lists of defendants two deputies named in the other lawsuits. Brian Nichols has been charged in the shootings and faces the death pen alty if convicted. Attorney Randy Ebersbach, who represents both women, said while the required notice of intent to sue seeks $3 million for each, the lawsuit wants a jury to decide how much each woman should be compensated for medical bills and their continued suffering. “The purpose is to com pensate our clients for what they’ve been through and to encourage the sher iffs office and the county to provide for their medi cal bills,” Ebersbach said. He said the county should pay for the cost of their medical expenses and that the two should not have to use their health insurance benefits, nor take care of the required copay, to cover their costs. - The Associated Press North Georgia to lose 1,200 jobs In plant closings RABUN GAP - North Georgia is losing more than 1,200 textile jobs as two companies say they plan to close plants in Rabun Gap and Hartwell. Fruit of the Loom is clos ing its yarn and textile plant in Rabun Gap, put ting 930 workers out of the job. The layoffs will begin this month and continue LOCAL STATE BRIEFS until the plant shuts down in August, the Bowling Green, Ky.-based company said. In a news release about the closure, Fruit of the Loom cited the “continu ing onslaught” of imports from Asia.
