SHOOTOUT]
On a rainy night in Perry,
Peach County High’s Lady
Trojans rained on what
looked like a winning night
for the Lady Panther girls
soccer team. Peach scored
a tying goal with 7:14 left
in regulation, then after no
overtime scoring, won the
penalty kick shootout 4-3.
Caitlyn Mitchell and
Crystal Greer scored on
Perry’s first two attempts
of the shootout, but Peach
matched those goals for a 2-
2 tie. The third try for Perry
hit the top bar of the goal,
but with a save by Jordan
Dykes, the Lady Panthers
maintained the tie.
Desirae Calvin proceeded
to put Perry back on top
3- but Peach converted as
well to bring it all down
to the fifth and final kicks.
The Peach keeper denied
Perry’s shot, and the visi
tors touched the ball to the
net for the victory.
The Lady Trojans are now
1-3 in the region with three
4- matches remaining.

Perry was the offensive
aggressor in the first half.
Mitchell missed wide on a
breakaway while Grefer had
a short attempt off the side
of her foot saved.
At the 20:15 mark of the
first half, it was little second
effort from Calvin that gave
the home team a one-goal
lead. Her first attempt was
blocked back to her, but she
aimed her next shot to the
right, and it bounced over
the line off the post.
Dykes came up with a
save with under 11 minutes
in the first half when she
almost kicked herself out
of position. But after team
mate Amber Drew had a
shot saved, Peach tied the
game 1-1 as a speedy Lady
Trojan striker made her way
between two defenders and
scored.
But Perry led 2-1 at half
time thanks to Greer, a
former Peach County High
player. Peach was called for
a handball, and with 1:44 on
the clock, Greer pounded the
free kick in.
Greer had a pair of shots
denied in the first two min
utes of the second half, while
Peach’s scorer overshot the
mark once again taking the
ball down field on the run.
Perry would lose the ser
vices of one of its shoot
ers, Kim Burgess, who twice
went down for an injury.
The visitors got a penalty
kick at 25:13, but the ball
hit the top bar, and Dykes
smothered it. But it was on
a Peach corner kick several
minutes later that the Lady
Trojans punched in the tying
goal. Dykes would make a
big save on another corner
kick with 32 seconds left in
regulation.

said. “Offensively, Alex
Dunford did a good job of set

at will most of the first half.
And I was equally pleased
with Giovanna Zammit. She
did a really good job.”
Donna McMahan also had
