right comer.
A mere seconds later,
Brooks missed another shot
over the net. About five min
utes after that, Tift County
took control of the ball, and
goalkeeper Patrick Robertson
made a clutch save on a low
shot.
The two goals from Grubbs
came about six minutes apart,
and Grubbs did both with a
little help from his Demon
friends. At the 65th minute
David Zaremba took a corner
kick on the right side, and
Grubbs got his head on the
ball to up the lead to 2-0.
Stephen Clark took a long
free kick that reached the
goal and was blocked away
by the keeper. Grubbs was
right there, though, to punch
in a rebound.
Tift County’s first goal
came at about the 75th min
ute of regulation and not
long after Bailey had made
his substitutions. The Blue
Devils were then awarded a
late penalty kick and con
verted it.
The match had a lot of
added stoppage time, mainly
for the assessment of yel
low cards. David Clark, one
of the Warner Robins play
ers brought back in, received
what was ruled his second in
this time, and that brought
out a red card.
Still, the Demons held on
to raise their record to 8-1-1.
WARNER RORINS 0. TIFT COUNTY

Two girls soccer teams
with good high school records
played to a 0-0 tie as Warner
Robins hosted Tift County
Saturday at Tanner Park.
Demonette coach Terri
Hunt said her girls played
tough and made a strong
comeback after Tift County

and that proved to be a key
difference. The Lady Packers
scored three times in the
last 20 minutes of regulation
play.
The boys soccer team
remained undefeated over
all in 2006 by winning 4-0
Friday at Colquitt County.
The teams will not play
again until taking another
1-AAAAA trip on April 4 to
Coffee County High.
PINE COUNTY girls 2, PERRY 0
The Perry High School
girls, still feeling a little
physically banged up from
a region home loss on
Thursday to Peach County,
lost a non-region road match
on Saturday, 2-0, at Pike
County High in Zebulon.
According to coach
Courtney Herbert, the Lady
Panthers did kick the ball
into the Pike goal on one
occasion as Crystal Greer

for Perry, which is now 2-0
in 4-AAA, came from Jeff
Stewart.
He hit a two-run double
in the top of the seventh to
push the Panthers to a more
comfortable 5-1 lead.
Seth Reber had two hits in
Masters’ line-up.
“We played really well,”
said Masters. “We just had
one error, but we didn’t have
many opportunities to make
errors the way Josh was
pitching.”

controlled most of the action
in the first half. She said she
felt Warner Robins “domi
nated” the second half, but
could not find a way to avoid
the team’s second tie in non
region play this season.
Warner Robins’ girls still
have yet to suffer a loss in
2006.
Demonette goalkeeper
Kim Burgess had four saves
against the Tift County
attack in the first half.
Warner Robins’ first shot
came at the 27th minute on
a pass from Tori Dukes to
Brittany Hill. The Lady Blue
Devil keeper, though, caught
that shot.
The home team didn’t have
any other shots the rest of
the first half.
Early in the second half,
Burgess knocked away a
and Amber Drew worked in
tandem to get an apparent
score. However, the coach
said on the play the Pike
goalkeeper went down, and
the Perry players were ruled
offsides.
“Our girls felt a little
cheated,” said Herbert. “But
it was a call, and we had to
accept it.
“It was a good, equal match,
but we were still beat up
and bruised from the Peach
County match.”
Perry played without for
ward Kim Burgess, who had
to leave the match against
Peach due to injury. Herbert
said the injury wasn’t any
thing serious, but she gave
Burgess the time to rest.

Sam Snipes, playing a strong
defensive half, disrupted
their efforts to score.
Warner Robins forced
several Tift goal kicks, and
Alyssa Schmucker drew a
yellow card (she also drew a
red card “after” the match)
from the Lady Blue Devils
defense in the 65th minute.
Warner Robins was unable
to capitalize on that and sev
eral other free kicks it got on
fouls and handballs.
Amber Conlon had a free
kick on the right side hit the
goal post. The Demonettes
kept the ball, but Hill had
another one of her tries
saved with about six minutes
left. Burgess caught a Tift
free kick just on the fringe of
regulation.
in Forsyth. Coach Sam Said
used some younger Panthers
for some varsity experience,
but Griffin High came out on
top 3-2.
After a scoreless first half
in which Perry out-shot the
Bears, the Panthers took a
1-0 lead. Freshman Shawn
Patterson scored, and the
assist went to sophomore
Daniel Burnham.
Said said after that goal
the Panthers played flat, and
Griffin countered with three
goals in a row. Elias Hall,
another Perry sophomore,
cut the Bear lead to 3-2 on a
penalty kick with 10 minutes
left.
“After we went ahead, it
seems like that took the wind
out of our sails,” said Said.
“The guys were fatigued,
probably from playing sev
eral tight games in a row. We
moved the ball at will in the
first half, but just couldn’t
punch it in.”

It had the potential of scor
ing one if not both of the
runners. But, Rob Foster ran
it down. The runners, this
time figuring it was going
to fall in, tried to advance.
Foster, in turn, fired it in
to Gifford, who threw it to
Darius McGee for the third
out.
Both had a chance later
for another putout - Gordon
recorded the first out to start
the sixth and after a runner
had reached on a single and
the next struck out, Foster
caught out three.
The Eagles, after leaving
one on in the first and the
bases loaded in the second,
scored both of their runs in
the third.
Gifford led off by hitting a
ball deep to short he was able
to leg out for a hit. McGee
attempted to sacrifice him
to second but his bunt to
the pitcher was thrown into
right. As a result, Gifford
went to third and he ended
standing on second.
