Search fop test
pilot's plane
continues In N. Ga.
LAWRENCEVILLE - The
search continued Thursday
for a missing airplane regis
tered to legendary test pilot
Scott Crossfield, the first
man to fly at Mach 2 and
Mach 3, faster than the speed
of sound.
The plane vanished
Wednesday night on a flight
from Alabama to Virginia.
The last radar contact with
the aircraft was in Georgia
north of metro Atlanta, the
Civil Air Patrol’s Georgia
Wing said.
Capt. Paige Joyner said
authorities have no confir
mation that Crossfield was in
the single-engine plane and
the air patrol does not “have
any confirmation who the
pilot was.” Searchers have
been focusing on four Georgia
counties - Pickens, Gilmer,
Gordon and Cherokee.
A man answering the
phone at Crossfield’s home
in Herndon, Va., declined to
say whether Crossfield was
missing and referred ques
tions to Joyner.
The plane left Prattville,
Ala., around 9 a.m. Wednesday
en route to Manassas, Va.

Raid nets 44

ATLANTA - Federal immi

suspected illegal immigrants
into custody after a raid at an
area business.
The people were taken into
custody Wednesday at a com

which makes wooden pallets.
The arrests were part of a
nationwide operation, immi

Authorities raided offices
and plants of IFCO Systems
in at least nine states, the
culmination of a yearlong
criminal investigation, law
enforcement officials said.
U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement agents
arrested seven current and
former IFCO Systems man

the conclusion of the course,
parents and teens enter into
