Braves 5, Nationals 3
ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta
Braves finally earned their first win
of the month
as Horacio
Ramirez threw
eight strong
innings to
beat the Washington Nationals 5-3
Tuesday night.
The Braves ended a five-game
losing streak - all at home - and
avoided matching their six-game
home skid Aug. 8-21, 2001, their
longest at Turner Field.
Adam Laßoche hit his 10th homer
in the third inning and Andruw Jones
padded the lead with his 15th homer
in the eighth inning.
Alfonso Sonano hit his 22nd homer
for Washington, a two-run shot.
Ramirez (2-1) gave up eight hits
and three runs with five strikeouts and
one walk. Ken Ray pitched the ninth
for his third save.
Ramirez was making his third start
since returning from a strained left
hamstring he sustained in his April 5
season debut at Los Angeles.
Washington right-hander Shawn
Hill, making his second start of the
season, gave up seven hits and four
runs, three earned, in six innings. Hill
(0-1) walked two batters and had two
strikeouts.

Last week, Houston County

and the same rules from this
event will carry over to the
Crossroads Invitational.

Jones County, Dublin, Dodge

the Mavericks of Macon.
Games take place at the
Panther Pit at Perry High

Diamond across from Warner
Robins High School.
Six games are slated for
Perry High School, including
the varsity Panthers against
the Bleckley Royals in the
final game at 8:15 p.m. The
Bear Den has five games on
top today with the Houston
varsity Bears capping things
off against the Jones County
Gold team.
All three venues will start
their Friday through Sunday
action at either 9 a.m. or
11:15.
To speed things along, all
games will have a two-hour
time limit. There is only one
run-lead mercy rule, eight
runs after five innings. What
also makes this type of base
ball unique is that there is
no exchange of lineup cards
(though teams are expected
to keep a consistent batting
order) and substitutions can
enter and enter again at any
time.
Shawn Masters, head
baseball coach of Perry
High, is certainly hoping for
better results for the varsity
Panthers after a run of bad
luck in the H.A.R.D. Ball
Tournament. Perry opened
last weekend’s tourna
ment losing twice at home
to Northside and Warner
Robins’ rising juniors
(White). Friday’s slated
game with Peach County
was rained out; then the
Panthers lost their games
Saturday and Sunday.

Eagles edge
While Sox,
move into
lie for first
*
From staff reports
The Eagles continued to
be the hottest team going in
the Middle Georgia Baseball
league with a 5-2 win over
the White Sox Monday at
the Bibb County Sports
Complex.
The team has now won
eight straight, their victo
ries coming to the chagrin of
every team in the league.
The Eagles last lost to the
Tigers 14-4. That came on
April 15. A week before that,
they lost to the Red Sox
12-6 and before that, the
Nationals 18-17 to account
for all three of their losses.
Since, with the addition
of some new players said
league President and Red
Sox player Chris Dunn, the
Eagles have outscored oppo
nents 84-46.
They have also moved
into a tie for first with the
Nationals.
The two are slated to
square off for the top posi
tion June 14 at 7:30 p.m. at
Peach County High School.
That is provided the
Nationals can get past the
Cardinals (5-7) Friday and
the Eagles beat the Astros
(2-9-1) Saturday.
As far as Monday’s win
over the White Sox, no
stats were provided by the
Eagles.
The White Sox, however,
were led at the plate by
Donald Outlaw, who went 2-
4. He also scored a run.

NS boys locus
on improvement
By MATTHEW BROWN
HHJ Sports Writer
With just six wins in the
previous high school basket
ball season, any changes can
only help lead to an upward
direction.
Northside High School’s
boys went 6-19 in the 2005-
06 campaign, so coach Kevin
Smith is looking at this little
offseason practice time as
a chance to adjust the atti
tudes among the Eagles.
As the school year ended
prior to the Memorial Day
holiday, Smith welcomed as
many as 36 Northside cagers
whom he hopes will bring a
reversal of fortunes to the
court for summer workouts.
That total includes incom
ing freshmen, who are set
apart for their own team.
Smith also worked separate
rising varsity and junior var
sity teams.
The first major camp for
Northside was at Dodge
County High School last
week.
This weekend, the Eagles
are headed to LaGrange
College for three days worth
of contests against top-flight
competition.
Before departing for
LaGrange, Northside will
host Central-Macon for a
series of games Thursday
