Panthers beat Demons for first offseason win;

By MATTHEW BROWN
HHJ Sports Writer
J.D. Howard pitched seven
complete innings for Perry
High School Wednesday
against Warner Robins High
at the Panther Pit.
He led the Panthers to
their first varsity baseball
win - by a 6-2 final - in
summer tournament play on
opening day of the Demon
Diamond Summer Bash.
Howard was flirting with
a no-hitter with two outs in
the top of the fifth inning.
Warner Robins’ big Rob
Baily broke that up, and the
Demons had three hits in
all that inning to also end
Howard’s shutout bid.
That was the only time
Warner Robins would score
in the game.
Howard allowed just one
other hit the rest of his out
ing. He didn’t walk a batter
for seven innings and struck
out six.
Warner Robins had some
problems with throw
ing errors that allowed
Perry to jump out to a 4-0
lead through two innings.
Sullivan deYampert reached
base on an infield single in
the home half of the first
and scored on a throwing
error with two outs.
Sports
in. Briscoe also picked up
the win for the White Sox
- no stats were reported by
the Cardinals. He went seven
innings, scattered four hits
and gave up all four runs.
He also struck out one and
walked six.
One other game Wednesday
featured the Nationals ver
sus the Eagles. At 11-3, they
were playing for the divi
sion league. Unfortunately,
despite subsequent attempts,
a score was not known by
deadline.

The first two Panther
batters of the home second
reached on throwing mis
cues. With one out, Kyle
Jones’ bloop single loaded
the bases. Howard helped
himself with a single up
the middle scoring the two
unearned runs. Sam Kinnas
followed with an RBI hit for
the 4-0 advantage.
Perry shortstop Jimi
Wilson had two hits in the
game.
His first brought home his
team’s fifth run in the bot
tom of the third.
After Baily registered the
first Demon hit, Jacob Gore
doubled to the opposite field
line giving his team two
runners in scoring position.
Robby Hinson, who started
the game at pitcher, singled
in the only two runs for the
visiting squad.
The last scoring of the
night wees set up by Kinnas’
second hit, a bloop to lead
off the bottom of the fifth.
Kinneis stole second base,
then deYampert beat out a
grounder to give Perry run
ners on the corners. Kinnas
came home on Jeff Stewart’s
sacrifice fly.
Britt Sutton had Wsimer
Robins’ only other hit in the
sixth.
