GMC announces academic achievers from Houston County

Georgia Military College
recently announced its out
standing college students
who have achieved academic
distinction during the spring
quarter.

Sigma bmiton Omega announces scholarship award to students

The Sigma Epsilon
Omega Chapter of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,
announced they have award
ed more than $5,000 dollars
in scholarships to students in
Houston County this year.
Salli-Tyma Parker, a senior
from Houston County High
School, received a schol
arship in excess of $2,700
for her participation in
the 2004 Jewels and Gems
Competition.
In March, the chapter
opened a scholarship com
petition to seniors at each of
the four public high schools.
The winner from each school
was to receive a SI,OOO schol
arship.
This year’s recipients were
Northside’s Carrie Oliver,
Warner Robins’ Christopher
LeShoure, and from Houston
County, Kyna Taylor.
This was the first year
the Four-School Scholarship
competition was held.
The scholarship competi
tion is open to all seniors
at the four high schools in
the county regardless of
race, sex, or national origin.
Winners must be attending
a four-year college or uni
versity.
“Education is imperative
to success,” said Erikka
Williams, committee chair.
“Students should not pass
on their educational goals
due to financial hardship.
If we are able to assist four
students each year in reach
ing their education goals, we
have done our part to insure
the future of this country.”
