Christine and Jimbo Adams
Sparks, Adams
vows exchanged
Christine Elizabeth Sparks and James Edward “Jimbo”
Adams II were married on April 22 at Pittman Park United
Methodist Church in Statesboro.
The bride is the daughter of Charles and Beth Sparks of
Macon. The groom is the son of James Edward Adams Sr. of
Portal, and Martha Adams of Swainsboro.
The maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Karen Sparks of
Macon. Bridesmaids were Melinda Sparks, the bride’s sister,
Judy Moore, the groom’s sister and Amy Meissen.
The flower girl was Jennifer Moore, the groom’s niece.
The groom’s father was best man. Ushers were Junior
Bragg, Billy Boggs and Steven McCullough.
The bride’s gown was satin a-line adorned with lace and
pearl applique. The gown featured a cut out lace trim. The
wedding party carried deep red roses.
Following the reception at Snella’s Place, the couple hon
eymooned in Asheville, N.C.
The newly-weds are now at home in Statesboro, where the
bride is an registered nurse at East Regional Medical Center
and the groom is with Eddie’s Floor Coverings.
Keeping up with the Joneses

From June 23, 1956 until
June 23,2006 is a long time
- 50 years to be exact. And
that is the time that the
former Joyce B. Bridges of
Perry has been married to
James W. Jones of Macon
County.
Joyce Jones is the daugh
ter of the late Morris and
Irva Bridges who came to
Perry in the late 1940 s to
operate the Perry Truck
Stop and Irva’s Beauty Shop.
James, or Jimmy, as most
folks in Perry know him, is
the son of the late Ernest
and Mattie Lou Jones of
Macon County. His father
was a Corrections Officer in
Macon County and Mattie
Lou was a homemaker and
mother of six.
After graduating from
Perry High School in 1954,
Joyce attended Shorter
College in Rome. She and
Jimmy Jones were mar
ried in between her soph
more and junior year, and
she graduated in 1958.
She began her career as an
elementary school teacher
while her husband contin
ued in the grocery store
business right back here in
Perry.

announces the birth of a daugh
ter, Precious Ticaira Lewis, at
Houston Medical Center on
May 30. Grandmother of the
baby is Catherine Lewis of
Fort Valley.

the birth of their first child,
Selecia in October 1958. In
November 1962 their sec
ond daughter, Valerie was
born. After Selecia had fin
ished the first grade, the
Joneses thought it was best
to rear their children in
Joyce’s hometown of Perry.
They returned to help her
parents open the Tastee-
Freezee.
Upon returning to Perry,
Joyce started teaching
English, speech and dra
ma at Perry High School
and Jimmy returned to
Southern Frozen Foods as
an over= the-road driver
delivering Georgia’s pro
duce from New England to
Miami. He retired from in
1991, and she retired from
Perry High School, after
teaching many children.
She rarely goes into town
without seeing some of “her
children.”
In their retirement, they
have purchased a 37-acre
place just across the county
line in Peach County and
have cultivated about 12
acres with gardens filled
with camellias, azaleas and
daylilies. There are trails
built throughout and they
enjoy giving tours to their
friends.

Miller, Sparks plan
June wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Sparks of Macon announce
the engagement of their daughter, Melinda Ann to Justin
O’Neal Miller, son of Steven and Terri Miller of Bonaire.
The weddingis planned for July 1 at Trinity United Methodist
Church in Warner Robins. The reception will be held follow
ing the wedding at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Donald and Vera
Jennings, of Tucson, Ariz., Jackie and Alice Sparks of Cedar
Park, Texas and Evelyn and Jim Ewing of Myrtle Beach,
S.C.
The groom-elect is the grandson of William and Dixie
Swain of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Elmer and Belle
Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Both are 2000 graduates of Houston County High
School She earned her bachelors degree in Early Childhood
Education from Georgia State University in 2004 and is a
second grade teacher in Gwinnett County. He graduated
in 2005 from Georgia Tech with his Bachelors degree in
architecture. He is with Greenberg Farrow in Atlanta.
Following a Caribbean cruise beginning in Puerto Rico, the
couple will make their home in Atlanta.

ry, Joyce and Jimmy Jones
have taken off to Alaska on a
14-day tour and cruise with
Holland America aboard the
MS Veendam. They have
experienced the wilderness
and the rugged backwoods
panning for gold and watch
ing out for grizzly bears.
They took a tour through
Denali National Forest
which took them right to the
bears and eagles. The tour
consisted of planes, trains,

rently live in their Mexican
home in Ajijic, Jalisco.

Sarrat, Weldon to
wed in September
Allan and Margaret Sarrat of Perry announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Alison Michelle Sarrat of Atlanta, to
James Adams Weldon Jr, also of Atlanta, son of Jim and Lyn
Weldon of Smyrna.
The wedding will be at Peachtree Christian Church,
Atlanta, on Sept. 23.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Marilyn Sarrat of
Perry and Ernest MacDowell of Lafayette, La. A graduate
of The Westfield Schools, she earned her degree in pharmacy
from the Mercer University School of Pharmacy and works
at Walgreen’s Pharmacy in Atlanta.
The groom-to-be is a graduate of Griffin High School
and the University of Georgia. He is working toward a
Master’s of Divinity at Mercer University’s McAfee School
of Theology.
