Resource Library
Companies can stock a
variety of books, videos, and
pamphlets on parenting and
marriage issues for employ
ees to borrow and use at
home.
Utilize Existing
Company Resources
Employers can use compa
ny communications to publi
cize resources and informa
tion on family issues. Seek
discounts for your employees
from local service providers,
entertainment facilities, and
other businesses.
Management Role
Modeling
The best policies will not
have a positive impact on
employees unless the com
pany culture and environ
ment encourages the use of
available services and oppor
tunities. Often, managers’
actions and words send con
flicting and confusing sig
nals to workers about the
acceptability of prioritizing
their family life.
Family Seminars and
Discussion/Support Groups
Lunch time speakers and
encouraging employees to
discuss with each other mar
riage and parenting issues
can provide support and
relieve stress for employees.
Treating Situations
Differently
When an employee experi
ences a family crisis, having
an employer who is support
ive, flexible, and adaptable
in that time inspires loy
alty and shows value for that
employee. Giving manag
ers the ability to make deci
sions in those situations can
save a business the costs of
hiring and training a new
employee.

Cadets in the Perry Junior Police Academy learned how to process evidence , identify
drugs (bottom left) and how to process the case (from the accident scenario, above)
from the call to court. And they did just that with Public Safety Director George Potter
as the prosecuting attorney (top left) and went to court (at left, middle) to put John
Finger (aka Dillion Hendrix) behind bars.
Cadets learn about police work
By OFFICER KEITH KINDLE
Perry Police Department
They came from all grades - fifth, sixth,
seventh, eighth and ninth, ready to learn
all they could about police work and what
we really do.
Some cadets at the Perry Junior Police
Academy said they wanted a look into what
police work was about.
Others just wanted to come and check out
a possible career. Some said they just like
police officers.
Regardless, one thing was for sure the
cadets got more than they bargained for
during the most recent Junior Police
Academy.
They learned how our Constitution pro
tects our citizens. They learned all about
Georgia laws, traffic laws, and even how to
handle an accident.
At a simulated accident they learned how
to find evidence and how to legally search
for items without violating the law or con
stitutional rights.
Then they learned how to process evi
dence, identify drugs and how to process
the case (from the accident scenario) from

the call to court. And they did just that
with Public Safety Director George Potter
as the prosecuting attorney and Mayor
James Worrall as the judge. They went to
court to put John Finger behind bars.
He was the unlucky fella that caused the
wreck outside the police department. You
see, in the scenario, the lady in front of
John Finger stopped for an alligator and he
hit her in the rear area of her car. It was
then that the crafty cadets found a gun and
drugs. Well John F'inger played bv Dillon
Hendrix got about 30 years.
The staged accident allowed cadets to
take all they learned in two weeks and put
it to work in court.
It wasn’t all work though. They had a
day fishing at the Ag Center and went to
Whitewater on June 16.
They also had range duty, ran an obstacle
course and did pushups until they could
move no longer.
It was a good time for all, including the
adults who were involved. Next year we
hope to have an even bigger and better
Junior Police Academy. So if you want to be
a cadet, start planning for next June now.
