Phil Clark form the Middle Georgia Regional Development Center explained the pur

primary responsibility is
to facilitate the entire plan
ning process. The member
ship of this group includes
Lowe, Jim Boswell, Chuck
Shaheen, Brad Fink, Doug
McDowell, Sue Francis,
Linda Jones, Billy Edenfield,
Bob Hubbard, Chuck
Ramsdale, Alan Dooley and
Bill Douglas.
The efforts of this group
are supported by the techni
cal assistance provided by
the departmental staff of the
various communities and
the Middle Georgia Regional
Development Center includ
ing Steve Engle and Jake
Cox from Houston County,
Jesse Fountain and Jessica
Swecker from Warner
Robins, Mike Beecham and
Lee Gilmore from Perry,
Patrick Eidson of Centerville
and Phil Clark of the RDC.
“A lot of legwork has been
done already,” Lowe said.
“We’ll take the information
you give us and put it in the
areas it goes in.”
Clark said the primary
goal of this group is to invite
and encourage community
participation throughout the
planning process. “Probably
the biggest difference from
the last plan in the mid ‘9os
is citizen input. We want to
know what you think. We
want to get you involved.”
He explained the com
prehensive plan is a guide,
a roadmap for future deci
sions. “A good plan is deter
mined not by how it is devel
oped but by how it is imple
mented,” said Clark.
County Commissioner Jay
Walker had praise for the
presentation. “These guys
did a good job.”
About 100 people came out
for the comprehensive plan
community forum in Perry,
but less than a dozen of the
90 gathered spoke out on the
dozen issues presented.

he said, “Unadilla has two

There are a lot of assets.”
He noted also that

and suggestions on topics
such as economic develop
ment, housing, natural and
historic resources, commu

land use, transportation.
Boswell asked that resi
dents not just drop in prob
lems but offer solutions if
possible. “This is not the
place for regular complaints,
if you have them see county
officials after the meeting.”
Walker said afterward,
“it’s a dynamic county here.
There were lots of questions
about Houston County.”
David Mills of Perry, for
mer County Extension direc
tor, said he was concerned
about the rapid growth of
housing and “helter skelter”
growth. “We’re getting big
ger for growth’s sake.”
Dee Allison of Perry, also
spoke out against high-den
sity housing. She said it was
unregulated, not monitored
and developers with no plans
are silting the ponds down
stream. She also claimed to
have documentation of her
claims, which Boswell asked
her to present to county offi
cials.
A question about greens
pace along Indian Creek was
deferred to county officials.
Kay Harthey, also said
“growth is helter skelter,
there seems to be no con
trol. Developments seem to
appear out of nowhere.”
She asked for an organiza
tion to regulate and review
development. “We’re in a
drought and they’re build
ing more houses.”
Allison also spoke up about
disappearing farmland. “If
we’re not careful, we’ll have
none.”
Two of those who spoke
up came from Macon.
Charise Stephens from the
Middle Georgia Clean Cities
Coalition asked that the
county attract businesses
that specialize in biodiesel,
alternative fuels and build
the infrastructure to sup
port its use. She noted Davis

The transition has been

He was then transported

was no public transporta

elderly and disabled to get

“When thinking of develop
ment, have awareness of dis
abilities and be sensitive to
their needs,” she said.
She asked for things such
as curb cuts at crosswalks,
