S tone Mountain Park is in full holiday form
now that Snow Mountain is open and Stone
Mountain Christmas activities are being held.
The park opened its annual Snow Mountain, exhibit
on Nov 16 and plans to keep it open on weekends and
school holidays until Feb 23.
Snow Mountain has delighted park visitors for 12
years, but this year the park will introduce a new ride
called Dare Devil Plunge, which takes guests through
a dark tunnel that Stone Mountain Park officials are
calling its tallest and fastest slope ever.
Dare Devil Plunge sends riders at speeds in excess
of 30 mph through a 150-foot lighted tunnel. In addition
to Dare Devil Plunge, Snow Mountain features a 400-
foot snow covered hill that offers rides in single tubes,
double tubes and family sized tubes.
Snow Mountain is maintained by a team of workers
who continuously apply more snow.
“Snow will melt in warm weather or if it rains,”
said Stone Mountain public relation manager Angela
Walton. “Piles of snow are continually made to combat
warm temperatures and spread out to form the tubing
hill.”
In addition to the snow piles, the Snow Team at
Snow Mountain has found other ways to keep the snow
fluffy and cold.
