Check out these events to say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024: Brookhaven HobNob Brookhaven is hosting a Rockin' New Year's Eve Party starting at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. The party is free to attend and will include party favors and midnight champagne toast. Dinner specials, as well as champagne and bourbon flight specials, will also be available. Decatur Legacy Events and Catering will be hosting a New Year's Eve Masquerade Party that will run from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 SEE NYE ON PAGE 6 Tax allocation district planned for southwest DeKalb BY JAY PHILLIPS JAY@DEKALBCHAMP.COM DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the creation of the Southwest DeKalb Tax Allocation District (TAD), according to a Dec. 19 announcement. A news release states the goal of the new TAD is to "kickstart economic development efforts in the area." The boundaries of the Southwest DeKalb TAD consist of two areas connected by Flat Shoals Road. The western portion of the TAD runs along the DeKalb/Fulton county line on Moreland Avenue. The eastern portion of the TAD runs along Candler Road- south of city of Decatur—and is concentrated between Glenwood Dunwoody High School grad marks 19th year as host of New Year's Eve program BY KATHY MITCHELL FREELANCE REPORTER Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve for more than 50 years has annually welcomed the new year with entertainment climaxed by the drop of a ball in New York's Times Square at the stroke of midnight. On Dec. 19, iHeart Media announced that for the first time in its history the program would be broadcast as both a television and radio event. The change will take its primary host, Ryan Seacrest, back to his media roots. Seacrest, who this year hosts the program for the 19th time, got his start at an Atlanta radio station when he was still a student at Dunwoody High School, where, according to comments he made in a The New York Times interview, he "wore braces and glasses and was fat and got teased about it." In an interview with television late-night host Jimmy Kimmel 10 years ago, Seacrest told more of his story.
