SOUTHWESTERN PRESBYTERIAN
UNIVERSITY.
Of the hundred and eighteen students
enrolled at the Southwestern Presbyterian
University, fifty are candidates for
the ministry under the care of Presbytery,
and two more expect soon to do

Ninety-eight of Jhe cne hundred and
eighteen students are members of the
Presbyterian church, against eighty-eight
last session. The number of theological
students is about the same.
The session has been remarkable for
the excellent behavior and order of tht
students even in minor matters, and a
marked deepening of spiritual life has
been noticed.
The new professors, Dr. Rosebro, in
the chair of Systematic Theology, and
Professor Holliday, In the chair of English,
are, apparently without? exception,
esteemed by the students as men and
as teachers, and have won the high regard
of the faculty. The work of the
session has passed harmoniously and
without friction, students and faculty cooperating
in many ways.
In view of these facts, and of the
sound training acquired here, intellectual.
moral and religious, Presbyterians
of the Synods of Alabama, Louisiana.
Mississippi and Tennessee, owe their active
interest and support to this Presbyterian
institution under the control of
these Synods, with a board of Presbyterian
ministers and elders, a faculty of
Presbyterian ministers, elders and church
i. members, and a body of students, eightythree
per cent of whom are members of
the Presbyterian church, and fortv-twn
per cent candidates for the Presbyterian
ministry.
The way seems clear for healthy progress.
There is no apparent reason why
there should not be a hundred and fifty
J students enrolled next fall. The academic
course here is second to few, if
P- any, in this part of the South, and the
theological course has written its own
record in the standing of its graduates
in the ministry.
