Tennessee Goes Dry: Nashville and all
Vennessee are in the "dry" column s.ncQ
July 1. With the passing cf the month of
june tne state-wide prohibition law went
into effect. This law prohibits the Eale

the only municipalities that were
not included in former extensions of the
old "four-mile law." The transition from
the old to the new order was effected

plate mills of the United States Steel Corporation,

men on strike exceeds 7,000.
Government Deposits Reduced: A call
on national depository banks for a return
to the treasury government funds
aggregating approximately $25,000,0u0 was
made last yeek by Secretary of the
Treasury MacVeagh. Of this amount
$9,000,000 has been called for July 15,
and $16,000,000 for August 15. Balances
in all active depositories are uniformly
reduced to the lowest amount which the

Trust Magnates Face Prison Charge:
The six directors of the American Sugar
Refining Company, commonly known a3
the sugar trust, and two other men indicted
by the United States grand jury
for violation of the criminal clause of
the Sherman anti-trust law, face a fine
of $70,000 and fourteen years in jail.
"Conspiracy in restraint of trade," the
charge against the defendants, is a misdemeanor
under the Federal statute.
There are fourteen counts in the indictment,
the maximum punishment for each
being a fine of $5,000 and one year in
prison.
State .Boundary Line Settled: On Monday,
July 5, the boundary line between
the states of Louisiana and Mississippi
on the waters of the Oulf of Mexico and
the Mississippi sound were marked off

government geodetic survey department.
The work was done in the presence 01*
officials of both states. This action follows
a decision in the United States supreme
court in a suit which was fought
stubbornly by the oyster commissions of
