LEBANON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY.
The Theological department of Cumberland
University, at Lebanon, Tenn.,
has Leen discontinued as a department of
the University, and will open this fall as
a new Seminary, "though practically the
same old Seminary, with substantially
the same competent and consecrated faculty."
Such is the announcement of the
Cumberland Presbyterian. It Is further
stated that as a result of this change, the
Seminary will in no way be affected by
any threatened litigation or be in danger
of interference or interruption of any
kind. It will be governed by a board of
trustees appointed by the General Assembly.
All the faculty of the former Theological
department of the University have
been retained, with the exception of Dr.
W. P. Bone, who felt impelled to ask
that his name be not considered, as he

TOLSTOY'S REWARD.
In a book just published dealing with
Count Tolstoy, a new anecdote of the
famous writer is related. Tolstoy, as is
well known, habitually dresses himself
after the manner of a peasant, and, on
one occasion, whilst standing on a railway
station platform was accosted by a
. lady, who said to him: "Go and fetch my
husband. There he goes! Run quickly,
and I will give you five kopecks (2 1-2
cents.)" The Count obeyed and was duly
rewarded, as promised, but some of the
bystanders had recognized him, and the
lady was purple with confusion. She

laughed the matter off, and said, "I am
not going to return my five kopecks. I
have earned the money."?Central News.
It is a profitable thing for the Christian
minister to read a fresh boqk on the
great central and pfecious theme of all
his preaching and teaching. And Dr.
Stalker is brief and perspicuous, and he
