THE END AND AIM OF THE COLLEGE.
Hearing that his strong emphasis on
the intellectual aim in college life had
been criticised as implying indifference
to the moral aim, President Woodrow
wnson or frinceton University earnestly
protests against such an interpretation.
He is setting the "intellectual"
ideal over against the social and athletic
distractions which divert college students
so largely from tne proper business
of education, hut not at all in opposition
to the ideal of moral development. "The
end and aim of the college," says he, "is
moral culture and discipline. The object
of college is life in its entirety, as I suppose
we all believe, and moral culture is
.the heart of all training. I am sorry to
have any one think my ideal different."

Will. A. Wood, D. D.f have established a
Biblical Medal in Statesville Female College

was for many years a friend and patron
of the college, and this medal will associate
his name with this most important
branch of study in the college.

Sayre College is one of the oldest female
institutions in Kentucky. It was
incorporated with collegiate powers in
1854, at which time Mr. David A. Sayre,
of Lexington, donated to the trustees in
perpetuity for the cause of education
the costly buildings and grounds now occupied
by the college. To this magnificent
gift Mr. Sayre added largely during
his lifetime, and since the founding
of the college more than one hundred
and seventy-five thousand dollars has
been expended upon buildings and apparatus.

HOW TO LIVE LONG.
A venerable minister, wno has preached
some sixty-five years in the same
place, being asked what was the secret
of long life, replied, "Rise early, live
temperately, wbrk hard, and keep cheerful."
Another person, who lived to the
great age of 110 years, said, in reply to
the inquiry, "How have you lived so
long"? "I have always been kind and
obliging; have never quarreled with anv
one; have eaten and drunk only to satisfy
hunger and thirst, and have never
been idle."
