WESTMINSTER SCHOOL.
Westminster School is having a very
prosperous year. The wisdom of making
the school strictly a boys' boarding school
is now manifest. At no time in the history
of the institution have its prospects
been brighter. Not only is the school
fortunate in having a large number of
boarding pupils, but ulso in the high
character of the student body. The students
as a whole are remarkably mature,
most of them ranging in age from sixteen
to twenty-two. Earnest, faithful work is
being done by the student body. The
religious tone of the school is excellent.
Every boarding pupil is a member of the
Y. M. C. A. Many who have never done
so before are leading in prayer. A number
of prayer circles are being formed,
each member of the circle agreeing to
take his turn in conducting eveniug prayers.
The students conduct a regular serv
ice every Sunday evening in the chapel.
Two students are superintending Sunday
schools in the surrounding country. Mr.
R. G. Haney, president of the Y. M. C.
A., and his associates are doing much for
the religious and moral welfare of the
school. Great interest is being takeu by
the students in the study of the English
Bible. The Bible is a regular text-book
in the school, and in 110 study do the students
manifest more interest than in the
study of the Bible. The friends of the
institution have reason to be greatly encouraged.
DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE.

twenty-flrst year on September 23 with
the largest enrollment in the college department
in the history ot' the institution,
in spite of an almost total crop failure in
this section of the state, was most gratifying
and encouraging news to the Presbyterians
of Texas. It will be even more
encouraging news to the friends of Christian
education in our church to learn
that there has been a steady increase in
enrollment in all departments, so great in
the department of music that an additional
teacher of piano has been employed,
that there has not been a single withdrawal,
and that at the present rate of

of the second term reach the
largest enrollment of any of the Synod's
educational institutions. Those who are
familiar with the struggles through which
the college has passed during the last
twenty years will rejoice to know that
the days of darkness and uncertainty are
passed and that only bright and prosperous
days are before the college, that the
time has come when Daniel Baker can
hold up her head not only because of her
ability to do but because she actually is
doing her part toward Christian education

stitutions and this is largely responsible
for the present growth and progress. In
this faculty are representatives from Daniel
linker College. Austin College, University
of Chicago, Washington and Lee
University, Southwestern Presbyterian
Universtiy, Davidson College. ColumhiR
University and the University of Virginia.
Mr. William H. Sherwood, of Chicago,
the noted teacher pianist and gentleman,
as Director of the School of Music,
has brought many young ladies to Daniel
Baker who would otherwise have gone
outside the state. His visit on the 11th
inst. was a treat not soon to be forgotten
by the pupils as well as the music loving
people of the city. The Department of
Oratory of the college has always been
self-supporting. This year not only are
all the departments self-supporting but
every one is bringing a splendid revenue
into the treasury. The financial outlook
has never before been brighter. Even
with the present matriculation the col
lege will pay all expenses and have a
nice balance at the end of the year.
The above is only indicative of the
great and useful future before this, the
youngest educational institution of the
Synod. If what has been and is being
accomplished is possible without endowment
who can estimate the possibilities
of the work were the college equipped
and endowed as it should be.
