The Boy Scouts have also increased
and give us great encouragement.
We have three troops, and the fourth
is just being formed. We have also
formed a group of men. Independent
of any religious confession, for the
purpose o I discussing in an honest
and fraternal Bpirit the great moral
and social questions of the day. We
have also formed a cooperative so
ciety to help the people materially.
We buy in large quantities, which en
ables us to make a small profit, which
helps in the expenses of our frater
nity work. Our Blue Cross (league
of abstinence) has prospered also.
Many young men have entered it, and
we have been able to cure some drunk
ards. Altogether there is progress
and real encouragement, and the work
is full of promise. Thanks to you,
our friends, who have aided us ma
terially, and also spiritually; thanks
for your fidelity. If this letter ar
rives in time for your annual meet
ing, please give to each one our thank*
and our gratitude. Yours with re
spectful fellowship. Daniel Monod."
Through especial effort the society
was able to send |500 this year for
Mr. Monod's salary. In order to keep
up to this amount it will be necessary
to get many new members or have
those who are now general members
at $1 a year become sustaining mem
bers at $5 or $10 a year. Contribu
tions can be sent to the treasurer,

CHURCH NEWS.
(Continued from page 9)
Recently the Rev. Dr. DuBose, of
Danville, Va., assisted the pastor in
a protracted meeting. It was our
prayer that coming to us ho would
bring a full blessing from Christ, and
we were not disappointed. The con
gregations, large at the beginning,
grew in size and interest throughout
the meeting. The preaching of Dr.
DuBose was of a high order and was
mightily used of God for the blessing
of believers and winning others to
Jesus. The singing was under the
leadership of Mr. George E. Pickering,
of Baltimore. Mr. Pickering has a
beautiful and splendidly trained tenor
voice, and with an attractive manner
and personality added much by his
gospel solos and leading the congre
gational singing to the pleasure and
profit of the meeting. Already four
teen have been received into the
church as a result of this brief meet
ing of nine days. Others, we hope,
will come later.

ing the new dormitory at the Orphan
age.
The other important day was Tal
ladega Day, when at the regular meet
ing of the Circles, finished garments
and new material were brought to be
sent to the Orphanage at Talladega.
In addition to the boxes sent, there
will be a generous cash offering.
Church-Paper-Week was observed,
and at the lunch hour, reports from
the Committees were heard, besides
several impromptu speeches in testi
mony of the value of the Church paper

BETHEL. PRESBYTERIAL.
One of the visible results we have
from the Presbyterial Institute held
by Bethel Presbyterial Auxiliary, is
that two young ladies of Woodlawn
Church, Sharon, S. C., have volun
teered for life service in the moun
tains. These girls are Misses Eliza
beth Bigham and Melinda Hope.
MARLINTON, W. VA.
Last spring tne Auxiliary of this
Church decided on a very practical
method of assisting the Orphanage of
West Virginia Synod, Davis-Stuart
School near Lewisburg. Each woman
during canning season was to can an
extra can or two of fruit or vege
tables for the institution. Then the
Auxiliary meeting of October was des
ignated as "Davis-Stuart Night." Mr.
R. K. Robinson was asked to be pres
ent and tell the Auxiliary something
of the institution and its needs. In
connection a "can" shower was held
resulting in fifty-six quarts, seven
pints, two half-gallons and nine
glasses of 3elly. Also a barrel of cab
bage and other good things were
brought in. The evening was a most
enjoyable one.
HARMONY PRESBYTERIALi.
Harmony Presbyterlal Auxiliary
held an interesting and instructive
conference at Tirzah Church at Dal
zell, S. C., November 1st. The open
ing devotional was conducted by Rev.
L.. K. Martin, local pastor.
Rev. R. L. Grier, of Mayesville, de
livered an address on Home Missions,
telling especially of the work in our
own Presbytery.
Mrs. Andrew Bramlett, Synodlcal
Vice-President, was with us and gave
valuable instructions on the new con
stitution for local auxiliaries, and the
"Budget."
Reports were heard from the Sy
nodical and the Workers' Conference,
also brief messages from the Cause
Secretaries.
Mrs. T. B. Fraser, of Sumter, con
ducted the devotional at the after
noon session. The day was ideal and
sixty-five representatives were en
rolled, the largest attendance on rec
ord for a Conference in Harmony
Presbyterial.
Too much cannot be said of the gra
cious hospitality of the Tirzah con
gregation and their pastor. The
Church has been made beautiful with
potted plants and chrysanthemums.
At midday an elegant lunch was
served under the trees near the
Church. Words fail me to describe
this feast of good things.
The meeting adjourned at four
o'clock, and all returned to their
homes, feeling that it had been a well
spent day.
