M6RRY CHRISTMAS
They are grateful to America for
its aid in their distress. 110,000 or
phans are being cared for and trained
for future citizenship in the homes
of the Near East Relief.
We must help save them until they
can be rehabilitated by economic re
construction.
Sunday, January 21, 1923 (which
is the Armenian Christmas), has been
appointed by the General Assembly as
a Near East Relief Field Day, on
which it is suggested that our
Churches and Sunday Schools join in
a concerted presentation of this
worthy cause, and raise funds to meet
the need. This date is suggested for
churches that cannot cooperate with
other denominations in Community
Campaigns.

CHURCH NEWS.

WEST VIRGINIA.
Laurel Hill Church: Rev. John W.
Rowe, pastor of the Hinton Church re
cently assisted the pastor of this
church in series of evangelistic ser
vices. The weather was ideal, tli^
congregations were large and the
preaching was strong, pure and effec
tive in the upbuilding of the Christian
people and in the conversion of the
unsaved. Mr/ Howe gave them a
splendid series of evangelistic ser
mons. The visible results were fifty
reconsecrations, twenty-one profes
sions of faith in Jesus Christ, eight of
whom united with the Presbyterian
Church. The Laurel Hill Church is
only three years old, but is growing
steadily under the efficient leadership
of the pastor, Rev. J. T. Pharr.
J. E. Flow, Evangelist.
PERSONAL.
Dr. and Mrs. Charles C. Carson, of
Bristol, Tenn., celebrated the silver
anniversary of their marriage on the
evening of November 10, 1922, at the
First Presbyterian church, Bristol,
Tenn. The occasion was a delightful
one and brought joy to many hearts.
An interesting program was ren
dered in the auditorium of the church,
where speeches of felicitation were
made by representatives of all the
church organizations and of the Bris
tol Ministers' Association.
Though it was announced that no
gifts were expected, the happy couple
were the recipients of beautiful and
appropriate ones. The officers and
others presented an exquisite silver
service, engraved. The Ministers' As
sociation gave a handsome silver dish.
Individuals gave choice pieces of sil
ver, checks and silver dollars.
The Ladies' Auxiliary furnished de
lightful refreshments, which were
served to the large company In the
Sabbath school building. Mrs. Carson
wore her wedding dress, gloves and
slippers, which were in a splendid
state of preservation and which added
greatly to the beauty and interest of
the occasion.
Friends outside of the church mem
bership were present and entered
heartily into the joy of pastor and
congregation.
Dr. Carson has been pastor here
for almost fifteen years. The relattok
has been a useful and happy one, "the
tie that binds" being constantly
strengthened and the measure of ser
vice and good fellowship enhanced,
with the passing of the years.
Dr. and Mrs. Carson appreciate the
substantial expressions of their many
friends, but more than these tokens,
valuable as they are, they prize the
esteem, confidence and affection of
these splendid and worthy people in
this great and growing city.
Dr. Carson made an Impressive re
sponse to the earnest words of the
gifted speakers.
