Moreland grape growers will sent
grapes to market this week.
Nearly 100 cars of watermelons have
been shipped from Lowndes county so
far this season. Prices have ranged from
$75 to $l6O per car, which brings about
$2,000 from water melons into the coun
try,besides the large local demand. Du
ring the next six weeks it is safe to say
that 200 more cars will be shipped,
bringing in $25,000.
"Mfessrs. Patterson, Ringland & Pratt,
of Jacksonville, Fla., have leased the
plant of the Cordele Guano company.
The Cordele Guano Company have found
it unprofitable to operate the factory on
account of the lack of canital. Almost
the entire capital of $56,000 is invested
in the plant,leaving only a small amount
of money with which to operate. The
plant is one of the best in the south.
At Lexington Wednesday, while Wal
ter Faust and Harold Reynolds, sons of
Drs. W. Z. Faust and W. H. Reynolds,
aged 10 and 8 years respectfully throw
ing rocks at each other a rock thrown by
Master Harold struck Master Walter in
the eye. dealing him such a blow that
it was feared that member had been de
stroyed. Ev-eryhting possible is being
done for the injured lad by both doctors,
and it is hoped permanent injury may
not result
In regard to the vacancy in the office
of coroner of Bibb county, Ordinary
Wiley has decided as follows: As the
law provides for any justice of the peace
to act as coroner until one is appointed
or elected and as it will cost the county
SIOO to hold a special election and as it
will not be very long before a primary
will be held for county officers, which
includes the office of coroner, Ordinary
Wiley thinks it best to wait until after
the primary and he will then appoint
the person nominated to fill the vacancy
until the regular election in January
next.
