Football Postponed.
The game of football bet ween Rome
and Cedartown has been postponed until
October 24th, on account of the Cedar
town boys not being ready.

A Fine Display of Candies
Every lady in Rome is specially invited
to call at Lloyd’s today and tomorrow and
see a beautiful display of fancy caddies.
A sample bag of fine peanuts will be
given away to every lady, young or old,
and no one will be asked to buy.
Fix the Bridges.
There is considerable, complaint about
the condition of several of the bridges in
and around Rome. Among those said to be
in bad condition are the Land Company’s
bridge over the Oostanaula, the Brood
street bridge and the bridge over Horse
leg creek.
To*ch Light Procession.
The workingmen’s club will give a
torch light procession tonight, in cele
bration of the election of their candidate,
Mr. Jas. B. Nevin, to the legislature. All
in sympathy with the movement are re
quested to meet at the East Rome depct
tonight at 7 o’clock.

A High Compliment.
Dr, Seale Harris of Union Springs,
Ala., was elected vice president of the
State Medical Asscciation which met in
Chattanooga this week. Dr. Harris
graduated only two years ago from the
University of Virginia, and has since been
residing at Union Springs. He is a
brother of Prof. J. C. Harris of Rome.
Will Be Pleasing.
The ladies of the Christian church will
give a delightful tea this afternoon and
evening-at the home of Captain and Mrs.
R G. Cross on East First street. An ad •
mission fee of 10 cents will be charged.
Tne young ladies will serve delicious re
freshments.

Fifth Warder.
Died Yesterday.
Mrs. J. R. Johnson died yesterday
morning at Nannie, in this county,
and will be buried at 1 o’clock this
afternoon. She was highly esteemed
by all whotnew her, and her death
has caused much sorrow. She was
twenty-five years of age. Her hus
band and three children survjve her.
For the Firemen.
This afternoon, at 4 o’clock, Mr. R. D.
Vandyke will give a barbecue to the fire
men of Rome at the North Rome park.
This clever gentleman appreciates the
splendid work done by the members of
the department, and has selected this
generous method of attesting*the fact.
All active firemen are expected to attend.

Dr. Harb’.n in Calhoun.
Dr. R. M. Harbin, of Rome, came up
M onday night and performed a delicate
and difficult operation on the throat of the
little son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harkins.
The little fellow was suffering greatly
with membranous croup and his life was
despaired of. Dr. Harbin performed the
operation assisted by Drs. Hightower and
McLain and the patient is now doing well.
Dr. Harbin has performed this operation
frequently in this community and with
the most complete success.—Calhoun

Sound Money Speaking.
About 200 people gathered at the court
house yesterday afternoon to attend a
gold standard speaking. Col. D. B.
Hamilton made a strong and able speeeh
presenting his side as a “national demo
crat.” He is always eloquent and log
ical, and his speech yesterday portrayed
most favorably the gold standard side of
the financial' question Mr. W. L
Massey, republican candidate for con
gress, also spoke, and hia effort pleased
his fneads. Mr. T. J. Helm was chair
man of the meeting*.
Hon. J. Branham.
The Times hopes to see Hon. Joel
Branham elected, to the supreme
bench. He is one of the ablest jurists
in the state, a man of undoubted per
sonal integrity and unites in an emi
nent degree all the qualifications of
an excellent judge. He is a North
Georgia mail and this part of the
state is entitled to at least one repre
sentative on the supreme bench.
North Georgia can have one if she
will unite and make a strong pull for
her man. Let us see that Judge Bran
ham is elected by a flattering major

Judge Joel Branham, of Rome, will be
a supreme court judge, and he will be
elected by the people in December.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Huff are in

Mr. and Mrs. Julian Cumming left
yesterday to spend several weeks in
the country.
Miss Mamie Leonard left yesterday
for her home in Vienna, after a pleas
ant stay in Rome.
Mr Wright Willingham left yester s
day for Byron, Ga., to spend several
days with his parents.
Mrs. D. B. Hamilton, Jr., is quite sick
to the regret of her many friends. She
was reported to be considerably belter
last night.
Mr. Mulford Word made a flying
trip to Cedartown yesterday on his
wheel. He made the trip down there
in one hour and forty minutes.
Mr. Alex Hamilton, who has been
quite sick at Etna, was brought to the
city yesterday by Dr, Lindsay Johnson.
His many friends trust he will quickly
recover.
Hon. W. J. Neel, the energetic
j chairman of the democratic congress-
I ional executive committee, was in the
city yesterday, representing the inter
ests of a client in Polk superior court.
