That thus it is through life—

Rome boys are taking the lead at Mer

elected,president of the freshman class
and usher for founder’s day. Clyde Tur

day. The boys from Rome are, also,
taking a high stand in athletics.
Captain W. P. Simpson and Messrs J.
W. Rounsaville and Jott Camp, have been
invited to attend Rev. Sam Jone’s fiftieth
birthday celebration at Cartersville on
October 16. Fifty prominent gentlemen
from many parts of the United States
have been extended invitations. It is a
high honor to the three Romans.
This wedding story really really ‘‘takes
the cake * ’No social event occurring in
a great while has been more discussed
than the brilliant Peel-Kiser wedding,
which was a perfect combination of the
formal, the sentimental and aesthetic.
It was an old.-fasbioned southern wed«
ding in many of its aspects, and the
large company was served with most
generous hospitality. The bride’s table
itself a marvel of beauty and interest.
The great cake, in a style so fashionable
some years ago, was new to many of the
younger guests. It was a yard wide and
fifty inches high and weighed about one
hundred pounds.”
Mr. Jno. Ashley Jones of Atlanta
representing the New York in

There is an erroneous impression

than in the woman’s department patrons
are solicited among women only, but
my agents and myself have been given
full authority to solicit among men and
women, and so far we have been equally
successful with both.
“What is the largest policy we have
yet secured among women? Why, you
know,” she said laughingly, “women
are limited to $5,000 policies, and my
patrons among women have so far taken
out any amount from SI,OOO to $5,000
This matter of limiting women as to the
amount of insurance they may oarry in
the average company is one that would
prove an interesting subject for the suf
fragists. |Btatistics prove that women
proportionately live longer -than men,
and yet, because they are generally con
sidered the ‘weaker vessels’ they suffer
the idisadvantages in insurance com
panies.
“My ambition,’’ went on Mrs, Patton
“Is to see Bjwoman'a insurance company

venture and on an equal basis with that

ture has excited much interest among
women, and I have had letters from
many different states making inquiries
as to my methods and present success.
Among my agents in Georgia are some
of the most prominent young women,
Miss Marion Smith, the daughter of
“Bill Arp,“ having recently beenap
pointed as agent through north Geor

The Rome Georgian in commenting
on The Tribune’s editorial “Charlie is
coming” says: • ‘We know that Mr. and

pressed by one of Rome’s leading
dailies. It gives us a great pleasure
also to state that they will be in Rome
during the Federation, the guest of
Col. and Mrs. J. Lindsay Johnson.
We have no doubt but that the press
and people of Rome will unite in ac
cording them the courtesy and consid
eration due their position of prominence,
wealth and social distinction. Our con
tempory however,* will have the honor
of being unique and singular in the
particular kind of attention it expects
to bestow.”

Extraordinary Cost Sale Now In Progress
Ad Fahy’s Dry Goods Emporium, *
On yesterday Thos. Fahy began his
extraordinary cost sale of fall and
winter dry goods.
Thos. Fahy has been in business in
Rome for near two score years, and
never in a single instance has he failed
to comply strictly with the letter
of bis promises to the public. So
when he advertises a “cost sale” he
means just that, and more or less.
Mr. J. A. Henderson is in charge of
the dress goods department now, as
he has been for the past fifteen years,
His taste and knowledge of the most
seasonable goods and the require

The dress goods department is second
to none and every lady in Rome and
Floyd county should avail themselves
of this opportunity to get the season's

Fads In Medicine.
There are fads in medicine as in every
thing else and a “new thing” frequently
sells for a short time simply because it is
new. But in medicine, as in tiothing else,
the people demand and will be satisfied
only with positive, absolute merit. The
fact that Hood’s Sarsaparilla has stood its
griund against all competition, and its
sales have never wavered but have re
mained steadily at the top, demonstrates,
beyond any doubt, the intrinsic virtues
of this medicine. The new things have
come and gone but Hood’s Sarsaparilla
rests upon the' solid foundation of abso
lute merit and its power to cure, and its
sales continue to be the largest in the
world.
Roasting Coffee.
In Norway, where superb coffee is
made, a bit of butter is added to the
beaus while they are roasting in the
covered shovel used there for that pur
pose. In France, as well, a piece of but
ter the size of a walnut is put with
three pounds of the coffee beans, and
also a dessertspoonful of powdered sug
ar. This brings out both flavor and
scent, and, moreover, gives the slight
caramel taste which will be remember
ed as a pleasing part of French coffee.—
