MEETING OF YETS
Reunion In Atlanta Hext July Will Be
Largest Ever Held.
GEN. C. A. EVANS GALL TO GEORGIANS
O.’er One Thousand Camps Organized
Since the Nashville Reunion —Floyd
Will Send Large Delegation.
A great deal of interest is manife t
in Floyd in the great Confederate re
union in Atlanta next year.
There will be a very large delega
tion going down from here, and it is
probable that a great many sons and
daughters of the Confederacy will at
tend. •
From the present prospects the re
union next July will be the greatest
one ever held. Over one thousand
camps have been organized in the
south since the Nashville meeting.
C’tn. Evans hasSrecently issued the
following call:
To the ex-Confederates of Georgia
and their friends:—The organization
of the Reunion Association of Georgia,
with its necessary officers, general ex
e mtive committee and sub committees,
hts been secured and the work for
the reunion of the confederate vet
erans in 1898 has commenced with
that enthusiasm and organized effort
which will make the occasion memo
rable. I now make appeal to the
people of Georgia to unite
heartily in showing that great
consideration which I know they feel for
the men who willingly made the offering
of life on the call of patriotic duty. The
occasion will bring together for probably
the last time in Georgia the Confederate
survivors ot the country, north and south,
and the scene will be the most impressive
that the eyes of our sous and daughters
ever beheld.
The co-operation already tendered
from all parts of the state to the city of
Atlanta is most'gratifying in its assurance
that the hospitable arrangements now in
progress will be in some degree worthy
of tne Confederate survivors who are to
be our guests, and in order to make our
work effective I beg all officers of camps,
all my aides in every county and district,
all sons and daughters of Con ’ederates
and citizens to organize without delay in
every county so as to be in communica
tion with the executive commit'ee in
Atlanta. Clement A, Evans,
Pres. Georgia Reunion Association.
Household Gods.
The ancient Greeks believed that
the Penates were the gods who at
tended to the welfare and prosperity
of the family. w They were worshipped
as household gods in every home.
The household god of today is Dr.
King’s New Discovery. For consump
tion, coughs, eolds and for all affec
tions of the throat, chest and lungs it
is invaluable. It has been tried for a
quarter of a century and is guaranteed
to cure, or money returned. No
household should be without this
good angel. It is pleasant to take
and a safe - and sure remedy for old

Sacramento, Dec. 13.—At au early
hour a burglar entered the residence of
Sergeant of Police McManus and pro
ceeded to ransack the parlor. Mrs.- Mc-
Manus heard the burglar at his work,
but decided not to awaken her husband.
She picked up a revolver from a Cable
by the bed aud waited developments.
In a few minutes the burglar reached
the swinging door leading from the par
lor into the room adjoining the bedroom
and when heopeued the door she opened
fire. He made his escape, but the trail
of blood which was left showed that the
woman’s aim was good.

THE GREAT MELODRAMA.
Lincoln Carter “Fast Mail” rat Opera
House Friday Night Next-
Manager J. B. Nevin has booked for
Friday evening December I7th, the
great railroad melodrama, Lincoln J.
Carter’s “r ast Mail,” which will be
given a grand scenic production, that
in many respects promises to be one of
the most remarkable ever in this city.
The play is constructed on strictly
modern principles. The interest starts
at a terrific pace, and is not allowed to
flag for an instant. The incidents are
made doubly thrilling by the mechani
cal and scenic effects that are employed.
There is the rattle and clatter of a
patrol wagon as it comes down.the
street, the whistles, bells, etc., of a
Mississippi steamboat leaving her wharf,
moonlight effects on the river, the
glowing furnace of the boat, and the
explosion and breaking up of the
steamer.
A gigantic piece of real water scenery
is presented in the Niagara Falls scene,
where the enormous cataract is rep
resented with the roar of the water
seething foam and the rising mist.
A freight train of fourteen cars is
run across the stage. The caboose is
and the engine carries the
engineer and fireman. It is every
where acknowledged to be an unsur
passed achievement in railroad scenic
effect. There seems to be no limit to
the possibilities of stage mechanism ,
but ‘'The Fast Mail” seems to have,
covered all the ground up to the pres
ent date. The company is highly
spoken of, and the play is well con
structed, with strong tinge of comedy
to offset the serious elements.

A GOOD SUGGESTION.
The Need of Erecting Sign Boards and
Mile Fosta in the Country.
Editor Tribune:—l desire to call the
attention of our able board of commis
sioners of roads and revenue to a much
neglected requirement of law as to the
putting up of finger-hoards at the forks
of all public roads, and also putting up
mile posts. Now there is hardly a sign
board or mile post in our county.
Having just returned from a pretty ex
tensive tr : p into Alabama and finding
the law much neglected m that state, I
am able to more fully realize the impor
tance of its enforcement.
That is my only excuse for calling the
attention of our able board. H. H. R.

Water Famine mu» f
Montgomery, Ala.. Deo. 13—The re
cent rains have relieved the water situa
tion in this part of the state. The lack
of water was beginuiug to be a very se
rious consideration. Springs and weils
that had never failed had begun to go
dry and farmers, iu some instances, had
to haul water for their families’ use ami
for their stock many miles. Even the
artesian supply was fnuterially affected.
The Alabama river at this point is said
to have been lower than ever before in
its history. The recent rains, however,
are rapidly restoring the wells and
streams and the sand bars in the river
ate already covered.
Miss Allie Hughes, Norfolk, Va\
1 was frightfully burned on the face and
I neck. Pain was instantly relieved by
DeWitt’s Witch Hazel salve, which
healed the injury without leaving a
scar. It is the famous pile remedy.—

Columbia, S. 0., Dec. 13.—There was
a somewhat rensational shooting scrape
here between George Radcliffe, a pho
tographer and sou of the ex-chief of
police, and William Koueinauu. Rad
cliffe had for years been engaged to
Konemann’s sister, but for some cause
was recently prohibited the house by
the girl’s parents. She was ordered not
to see him.
Radcliffe met Miss Konemann at the
house of a mutual friend aud went
walking. Will Kouemann heard of it.
He had previously made threats against
Radcliffe and said he would “fix” him.
Returning from their walk, the girl was
standing on the balcony with her lover
beneath, when Kouemann walked un
ami struck Radcliffe with brass knucks.
Radcliffe had been previously warned
and drawing a pistol fired four shots,
one bullet producing a dangerous and
perhaps mortal wound.
