WORK ON HORSLE 1 SHOALS.
Government Dredging Boat Will Ba There
Several Moutbe.
Congressman John W. Maddox,
with the zeal and public spirit which
has characterized bis entire career in
congress, has secured an appropria
tion of SIO,OOO for deepening and
clearing Horseleg shoals just below
Rome.
The government steam dredging
boat with a large force of hands came
up from lock four some days ago,
and is now at the shoals at work.
The work is in charge of Lieut. Combs,
an experienced and accomplished
young engineer.
It will take several months to com
plete this work. It will be invaluable
to the river traffic between here and
Gadsden, These shoals have been
troublesome to vessels during low
waters, but the dredging machine
will deepen the channel considerably.
Capt. J. D. Kirkpatrick has worked
hard to secure this appropriation,
and through the efforts of Congress-
Maddox has at last succeeded.

But if you have weak kidneys' blad
der trouble or distressing kidney com
plaint, then Swamp Root will prove to
be just the remedy you need. Too fre
quent desire to urinate, scanty supply,
pain or dull ache in the back is con
vincing evidence that your kidneys and
bladder need doctoring.
There is comfort in the knowledge so
often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer’s
Swamp Root, the great kidney remedy
fulfills every wish in relieving pain in
the back, kidneys, liver, bladder and
every part of the urinary passage. It
corrects inability to hold urine and
scalding pain in passing it or bad effects
following use of liquor, wine or beer,
and overcomes that unpleasant neces
ity of being compelled to Ret up many
times during the night to urinate.
The mild and extraordinsry effect of
Swamp Root is soon realized. It stands
the highest for its wonderful cures of
the most distressing cases. If you
need a medicine you should have the
best. Sold by druggists, price fifty
cents and one dollar. You may have

I The Same... i
Old Sarsaparilla.
That’s Ayer’s. The same old |
sarsaparilla as it was made and
sold by Dr. J. C. Ayer 50 years ',
ago. In the laboratory it is I
different. There modern appli- >
ances lend speed to skill and
1 experience. But the sarsapa
rilla is the same old sarsaparilla
I that made the record — 50 years J
of cures. Why don’t we better |
it? Well, we’re much in the J
condition of the Bishop and the )
raspberry: “ Doubtless, ”he J
said, “ God might have made a 7,
better berry. But doubtless,
also, He never did. ” Why '
don’t we better the sarsaparilla? I (
We can’t. We are using the |
same old plant that cured the
Indians and the Spaniards. St S
has not been bettered. And (
since we make sarsaparilla com- S
pound out of sarsaparilla plant, 1
we see no way of improvement. '
Os course, if we were making r
some secret chemical compound J
we might.... But we’re not. S
We’re making the same old sar- f
saparilla to cure the same old
diseases. You can tell it’s the /
i name old sarsaparilla be

How to Prevent Pneumonia.
At this time of the year a cold is very
easily contracted, and if left to run its
course without the aid of some reliable
cough medfeine is liable to result in that
dread disease, pneumonia. We know of
no better remedy to cure acoughor cold
than Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
We have used it quite extensively and
it has always given entire satisfaction.
—Olagah, Ind. Ter. Chief.
This is the only remedy that is known
to be a certain preventive of pneumonia.
Among the many thousands who have
used it for colds and la grippe, we have
never yet learned of a single case having
resulted in pneumonia. Persons who
have weak lungs or have reason to fear
an attack of pneumonia, should keep
the remedy at hand. The 25 and 50
