| Christmas. |
Christmas carol, comes from a Latin
word—carolere—which means, “to sing
songs of joy.”
, Christmas is the time for tongs and
gladness. The first Christmas carol was
sung by the angels to the shepherds of
Judea, ‘‘Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth, peace, good will toward
men,"andthe joyous song has been
perpetuated and has echoed through all
tbe ages. This song of Bethlehem is the
brightest and sweetest in all human
thought. It is the hope of humanity. It
dries the falling tears, steadies the tot
tering steps, oheers the desponding,
gives naw life to crushed and buried
hopes. It thrills with joy, the tempest
tossed spirit of man, and gives the beat
ing of a new life—pulse to the guilty
inhabitants of earth.
The future shrouded in gloom, is illu
minated with a blaze of fglory, and the
gates of tbe great cemetery are thrown
wide open,'and life and immortality are
brought to light. The world is dark and
cheerless where there is no echo of the
Bethlehem song, and the frowning skies
are lit by neither sun, nor stars.
There is in the human heart, a uni
versal consciousness of evil and of per
sonal helplessness in the. struggle
against it,
The world is full of trouble and sor
row, perplexed by difficult problems and
rushing on to a future shrouded iu mys
tery.
Philosophy, science, nature, gives no
relief—no antidote, no panacea. Human
thought unaided, faints and falls in the
far away air. In this darkness and mys
tery, we hear tbe song of Bethlehem.
It is the Deliverer—the offer of peace
and pardon—the healing of every hu
man ill, O! what woes fall off on tbe
bosom of eternal lovel There is reason
for the Christmas carol, Ring out the
chimes. We wish you and all a merry
Christmas.

We live in a country of which the
principal scourge is stomach-trouble.
It is more wide spread than other
disease, and, very nearly, more danger
ous.
One thing that makesit so dangerous
is that it is so little understood.
If it were better understood, it would
be more feared, more easily cured, less
universal than it is now.
So, those who wish to be cured, take
Shaker Digestive Cordial, because it
goes to the root of the trouble as no other
medicine does. The pure harmless,
curative herbs and plants, of which it is
composed, are what render it so certain
and, at the same time* so gentle a cure.
it helps and strengthens the stomach,
purifies and tones up the system.
