The Montgomery
County High School Ea
gles basketball teams took
on Wilcox County on the
road on Tuesday of last
week dropping both
games, and then the boys
played at Telfair County
on Saturday also losing
that game.
Girls vs. Wilcox
In the girls game the
Eagles got on the board
first with a three-pointer
and then took a 5-0 lead on
a fast break basket by Ma-
kyla Bell. MCHS led 13-5
by the end of the first pe
riod. In the second Wilcox
closed the lead to 14-8 but
another three from MCHS
made it 17-8.
Wilcox went on a run
to pull to within one at 18-
17, but a three by Emeral
James pushed the lead
back to 21-17.
In the third it was 22-
20, MCHS, before a steal
and basket by Bell put the
Eagles up 24-20. But Wil
cox came back and took
the lead and were up 32-
26. Bell added another
three to make it 32-29. In
the fourth the score was
42-36 with Wilcox on top.
MCHS made a late run,
but fell just short as they
lost the game by just one
point, 46-45.
Bell led MCHS with
20 points, with Marley Bell
and Kayrah Harris each
adding 8 in the loss.
Boys vs. Wilcox
In the boys game it
was also a close battle that
went to overtime before
the Patriots of Wilcox
pulled out the win over the
Eagles. MCHS led 12-11 at
the end of the first period,
but in the second Wilcox
edged them out and took a
21-20 lead into halftime.
Wilcox outscored
MCHS 20-14 in the third
period to take a 41-34 lead
to the fourth. The Eagles
battled back to tie the game
at 54-54 and send it into
overtime. In the overtime
period Wilcox did just
enough to take a 64-63 win
over the Eagles.
Montgomery was led
by Dreon Jackson with 17
points, with Xavier Brant
ley and Jamari Mincey
adding 16 points each.
Boys vs. Telfair
On Saturday the Ea
gles fell in McRae to the
Trojans of Telfair. MCHS
lost the game 64-59 in an
other close one. The Ea
gles were led by Mincey
with 20 points, and Brant
ley posted 16.
This week MCHS
hosted Dooly County on
Tuesday after presstime
and will be at Dublin on
Friday with games starting
at 6:00 p.m. Then on Sat
urday the Eagles will travel
to take on rival Wheeler
County at 6:00 p.m.
Cheer
continued from page IB
both leadership and a lot
of talent to the team,
they are great leaders on
and off the mat and bring
a lot to the table on the
score sheet. So they will
definitely miss them, but
look forward to hope
fully having them help us
win another champion
ship.”
The Sweet Onion
Classic, which is one of
the biggest competitions
in the state every year,
takes hours of work and
preparation to get ready
for and Toole said she
couldn't do it without
the volunteers. “Our
cheer parents and other
volunteers are absolutely
the best! The hours that
they put in to make this a
top quality event is un
real and I am forever
grateful."
In Single A Screven
County took the top
spot, AA Vidalia was first
with Swainsboro taking
second, Pierce won AAA,
West Laurens won 4A,
Jones County was top in
5A, and in 7A Colquitt
County was the winner.
In the Middle School
Division Vidalia was the
winner with Toombs
County taking second
place.
The team numbers
were down greatly this
year due to COVID. Last
year there were 47 teams
competing across high
and middle school, but
this year there were just
20.
The J.R. Trippe Mid
dle School Chiefs team
also placed first at the
event. Trippe took the
top spot in the Middle
School Division and will
hit the mats again this
Saturday in Alma at the
Bacon County Blueberry
Classic. Meanwhile the
varsity will compete on
Saturday the 23rd in Ly
ons at the Cheer Dawg
Classic at Toombs
County High School.

RTCA
continued from page IB
RTCA took the lead back
late in the first half, 30-28.
A late three from Bulloch
put them on top 33-32.
In the third period
both teams offense really
got going with RTCA
leading 52-50. RTCA was
up 62-58 in the fourth, but
a three-pointer from the
Gators closed that to 62-
61. RTCA went on a late
run, though, and pulled
away to a 79-66 win.
Girls vs. Alleluia
RTCA faced Alleluia
Community of Augusta
on Saturday and the girls
got a big win. It was a low
scoring game, but the
Lady Crusaders came out
on top 28-22.
Boys vs. Alleluia
The boys also won
their game, and did so by
25 points. RTCA came
out on top of the game,
75-50.
This week RTCA
played Thomas Jefferson
at home on Monday, and
will be back in action on
Thursday at Pinewood
Christian at 6:00 p.m.
They will then play Trin
ity Christian on Friday at
home at 6:00 p.m.
Scouting
continued from page IB
return players like 6’7”,
260-pund tight end Dar
nell Wasington, who has
shown great hands and an
ability to run with the foot
ball, and young freshman
speedsters Arian Smith
and Jermaine Burton. I’d
have Pickens and the four
youngsters on the field as
much as possible.
With Zamir White,
James Cook, Kenny McIn
tosh, and Kendall Milton
returning at running back,
the Bulldogs will be four
deep at running back. Any
one of these could start.
Two of them, White and
Milton, were ranked as the
best high school backs in
the country.
Despite the key losses
at cornerback, there was
good news on the defense
this week when Jordan Da
vis, the 6’6”, 330-pound
nose tackle, who is consid
ered a high pick in the NFL
Draft, announced that he’s
returning to “ball with his
bros.”
2021 should be a great
season for the Bulldogs.
National chamoionship
good, maybe.
