Toombs hit a three and
then were up 11-7. It was
15-9 with just 35 seconds
left in the first, but Hill
made it 15-11, and that was
the score at the end of the
first.
Ira Clements hit a shot
at the start of the second,
and it was 17-15 after a
runner in the lane by Ja
cobi Washington. Clem
ents gave VHS the lead,
18-17 with 4:20 left in the
first half. The game was
tied at 19-19, and then it
was 23-23 with 1:45 on the
clock. At the end of the
first half the score was 28-
26 lead for Toombs.
Toombs pushed their
lead to five early in the
third, but the Indians came
back and took the lead, 32-
31, on a three by Whited
with just over four minutes
left in the period. Whited
opened the fourth with a
three for a 44-38 lead over
the Bulldogs. It was 48-40
after a basket by Hill, and
Ty Dailey made it 10 points
with a fast-break basket.
The score was 58-46
with just over one minute
to play, and the Indians
went on to win the game
56-46.
VHS was led by Dailey
with 26 points, and Whited
added 14 in the win.
Girls vs. Woodville
VHS had the task of
taking on the #3 ranked
team in the state on Friday.
VHS led the game early,
but Woodville tied it at 6-6
and then took the lead on a
last second three-pointer
to end the first period up
9-6.
By the end of the first
half of this low scoring
game Woodville was up
14-6 as VHS didn't get a
single basket to fall in the
second period.
Woodville pushed
their lead to 18-8 in the
third period, and with just
one minute left in the third,
the score was 29-13.
Roundtree got a three to
fall, but the score was 31-
16 at the end of the third.
Woodville went on to
win the game 39-27 over
the Indians. Roundtree
and Franklin scored 8
points each in the game to
lead VHS.
Boys vs. Woodville
This game saw the #9
ranked Indians taking on
the #4 ranked Wolverines
of Woodville. Woodville
was up 9-4 halfway through
the first period, and led
16-4 by the end of the first.
The score was 19-8
with 5:30 left in the half.
Just before the end of the
first half of action, baskets
by Cori Mincey and Sin
clair Williams closed the
lead to 26-18.
In the third Hill made
it 26-22, and then it was
31-28 as Clements hit two
three-pointers to keep the
Indians in the game. At the
end of the third period the
score was 36-30 with
Woodville winning the low
scoring game.
Whited hit another
three in the fourth, but
with two minutes left in
the game the Wolverines
were on top 46-39. Wood
ville went on to win the
game 54-44.
VHS was led by Clem
ents with 11, and Whited
added 8.
The Lady Indians are
now 4-7 on the year and
are 1-3 in Region play
while the boys are 7-4 and
2-2 in the Region. This
week Vidalia will host
Wheeler County on Friday
at 6:00 p.m. and will be at
Swainsboro on Saturday at
4:00 p.m.
VHS Wrestlers Place At Sweet Onion
The Vidalia High
School wrestling team
was in Lyons over the
weekend, participating in
the 2021 Sweet Onion
Memorial Wrestling
Tournament. The Tour
nament, which is
held over two days, is one
of the largest in the state
featuring top teams from
every classification in the
GHSA. The Indians made
a good showing on the
mats, coming in third
place behind 6A Lee Co.
(1st) and 4A West Lau
rens (2nd).
Senior Tom Godbee
won the 200th match of
his career en route to a
first-place finish in the
195 lb. weight class. With
200 wins, Godbee now
holds the school record
for the most wins for a
Vidalia wrestler, and
Head Coach Bobby
Blount gave high kudos to
his senior star.
“Tom is a one of a
kind! He works so hard
every day, and his accom
plishments are proof
of his work ethic. He is so
goal-driven that he is hard
to stop.”
Three other Indian
Wrestlers also had a good
weekend, including Jaylin
Burns, who placed 2nd in
the 285 lb. weight class,
Damien Townsend came
in 2nd place at 170 lbs.,
and Hunter Manning,
who continues to wrestle
well, finished 2nd at 138.
After the meet,
Blount was pleased with
the results and said they
will now set their sights
on the remainder of the
season, “We faced some
tough competition to
close out the regular sea
son, and I believe it pre
pared our kids for the Re
gion Duals coming up
this week.”
The Indians will close
out the regular season
this week with Tri-meets
at home on Tuesday and
in Brunswick on Thurs
day, before hosting the
Region Duals on Friday
in the Ralph Parsons
Gymnasium.

Qualifications O.C.G.A § 48-5-311
1. Must be in the judgment of the appointing Grand Jury, qualified and
competent to serve as a Grand Juror;
2. Must own real property;
3. Be a high school graduate;
4. Not be a member of county or municipality governing authority, board of
education, or board of assessors, or employee of the county board of tax
assessors, or county tax appraiser;
5. Members must complete a 40-hour course of training within the first year
of appointment;
6. An 8-hour recertification training course per year is required thereafter.
Announcement of
Scrap Tire Amnesty Event
On November 5, 2020, Montgomery County was awarded a Scrap Tire
Abatement Grant from the Environmental Protection Division (EPD)
of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. In accordance with
the terms of the grant, the Montgomery County Board of Commission
ers will be hosting a Scrap Tire Amnesty Event. This will be a five-day
event.
The Scrap Tire Amnesty Event will begin on Monday, January 18, 2021,
and end on Friday, January 22,2021. The hours of the event will be from
7:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. on each day of the event. This event is open to
the public for Montgomery County residents only. The drop-off site for
the event will be located at the Montgomery County Solid Waste Center,
300 Earthsaver Drive, Ailey, Georgia 30410. Earthsaver Drive is located
next to the Georgia Forestry Commissions Office on U.S. Highway 280.
The public will need to follow certain rules when dropping off scrap
tires at the event site. Car and truck tires will be accepted, as well as
ATV (all-terrain vehicle) tires. A limited number of commercial truck
tires will be accepted. Ten commercial truck tires will be accepted per
household address. The County reserves the right to stop accepting
commercial tires during the event. All tires must be dismounted from
any wheels and free of debris. County staff will be available to assist the
public at the drop-off site.
Again, this event is only for the public, not for commercial businesses.
Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or current utility bill, will
be required to dispose of tires for free during the amnesty event.
